Message from the Principals...
We want to take this opportunity to tell you how much we appreciate your continued support in helping your child stay on his/her path of learning. Back in March, none of us expected that we would have to quickly learn Google Classroom or that we would have to manage distance learning. Parents and schools have truly partnered in educating children at an unmatched level. We can’t thank you enough for all of your efforts to foster continuous learning for our children! We were put into a position that forced all of us to rapidly develop a plan to help students continue their education. With your help and the collaborative efforts of the teachers, we adapted to our new academic challenges. The process is a work in progress and each day we add more tools to our toolbox to better build an environment that is engaging for our students.
Our teachers’ two main priorities have been connecting with students and providing feedback on learning. While we recognize that this feedback looks different than the letter grade feedback that students receive when they are in school, we ask for your continued help in encouraging your child to stay connected with their teachers and use the feedback provided by the teachers to expand their level of learning. As the weather gets nicer, it is going to be increasingly important for our students to maintain a schedule to keep them engaged in their learning. We want our students to finish strong and we know that each and every one of our students is capable of working hard and doing their best. They are going to need our on-going partnership in providing support and inspiring words to help them to continue to achieve during this unprecedented time.
Speaking of feedback, we would appreciate your thoughts on how you feel remote learning is working for your child and family. Please complete the attached survey if you haven't already. We will use the information gathered to improve our remote learning. We also encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher to address any specific needs your child is experiencing. We want each and every child to be successful in this process and we need to hear from you so that we can better meet your child’s needs.
The report card that will be sent out at the end of the school year with your child's belongings will include a letter grade for the third marking period, reflecting how your child was doing prior to the school closure (March 13) and any efforts made to improve that grade since then, as well as a statement of progress for the fourth marking period. The assignments that your child is completing remotely will also factor into their grade.
Thank you again for your continued efforts and support. We are amazed by the level of commitment from students who are completing their assignments weekly, parents who are bringing their child to the school hot spots in order to access Google Classroom, parents who are maintaining a family schedule to ensure a quality learning experience, as well as the parents who are pushing their child to overcome occasional technical issues. We commend you for that and all that you continue to do! GIS is still a great place to learn, even in a remote learning environment.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Putnam and Mr. Byram

Welcome Incoming Fourth Graders and Parents to Gaylord Intermediate School!
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As the 2019-2020 school year grows closer to an end, we are eager to welcome our new class of fourth graders. We understand that a transition to a new school can be stressful on students and parents. Due to the major disruption of the last quarter of our school year, we did not get the opportunity to transition our third grade students in the traditional fashion. Gaylord Intermediate School is committed to providing students and families with a quality learning experience. We understand that students will be nervous coming to a new school and navigating the unknown. Therefore, we have attached a virtual tour of GIS so they can begin to process and get comfortable with their new learning environment. We will continue to stay in touch as new information becomes available.
We are excited to meet our new students!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Putnam, GIS Principal
Mr. Byram, GIS Assistant Principal
