I'm also pleased to celebrate Mr. Christopher Benz being named the new principal at South Meadows. He is a fantastic educator and a charismatic leader. He will lead the South Meadows community to accomplish great things!

We want to end this year strong and with as much positivity as possible. Read below about upcoming events and activities. I also want everyone to know that if any student causes any major disruption to our school during the last four weeks, they will not be allowed to attend the dance or the final day of school. This is to ensure that these events will be fun and safe. Hopefully, all our students do their part so we have a great finish to the year!

We are having a school dance on June 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. We'll need parent volunteers to help chaperone. Attendance to the dance will be contingent on good behavior. Let Coach Mac know if you want to volunteer to help at mchargk@hsd.k12.or.us. This event is for South Meadows students only (no guests from other schools). Students need to buy a ticket for $2 during lunch the week of May 31st.

June 9th, our 8th graders will be sharing their work on creating a unique business. Each student has been designing a food truck business plan. To celebrate, we'll have a food truck or two come at 5:00 for families to enjoy while they see our kids' creative work!

We will be doing a virtual talent show this year. If your student wants to participate, they can make a video of their talent and we'll all watch it together on the last day of school. We'll be sharing more information with the students in their advisory classes. Have your student talk to Mr. Welch to get their video included.

Due to logistical concerns, we will not have a large event for 8th grade promotion. Students will get certificates with different seals of accomplishment during the school day on June 15th. After school, from 4:00 to 6:00 that day (June 15th), 8th graders are welcome to come take pictures in front of the school. We'll have staff available with some photo props.

All 8th graders will need to turn their Chromebooks in on June 15th. 7th graders can keep their Chromebooks over the summer if they want to.

Yearbooks will be passed out during the last week of school and students will have time to sign them that week.

The last day of school is June 16th. It is a half-day and students will release at 12:15. Lunch and breakfast will still be provided. During the day, we will be having a fun activity day where students can play games, dance, jump in bounce houses, and celebrate the end of the school year. We could always use volunteers, so let Mr. Welch know if you can come or want to facilitate an activity that the kids may enjoy.

We will have some summer activities for students August 1st to August 12th. We are still getting them planned and we'll send out information so kids can sign up before the school year ends. This will be for students who will be attending SMMS next school year. Some of our activities are band, cooking, gardening, soccer, and more!

Back to School night for the 22/23 school year will be at 5:30 on September 1st.

Gracias por todo su apoyo durante todo el año escolar. Ha sido un desafío tener que navegar a través de la pandemia, ¡pero estamos orgullosos de permanecer abiertos para el aprendizaje en persona durante todo el año! Ha sido divertido ver cuánto han crecido los estudiantes académica, social y físicamente durante el año. Estoy emocionado de ver las grandes cosas que harán en el futuro.

También me complace celebrar que el Sr. Christopher Benz fue nombrado nuevo director de South Meadows. Es un educador fantástico y un líder carismático. ¡Él guiará a la comunidad de South Meadows para lograr grandes cosas!
