JCPS Calendar Approved for 2022-2023
Connect Ed: Friday, May 27
Good evening, Wildcats! We only have two more days of full testing to close out the 21-22 school year and look toward graduation for the class of 2022. I do want to take this opportunity to share our appreciation for the teachers and staff who are retiring from West Johnston this year, many of whom opened the school with us in 2002: Eric Honeycutt, Melinda Honeycutt, Brian Buchanan, Betty Jo Lewis, Angela Meadows, Debbie Burns, and Garry High. This is in addition to the retirements we celebrated in December with Mark McGee and Brenda Woolard. Thank you for your service to our school community. While we are excited that they are able to take advantage of retirement, we are sad to see them go. Please join us in congratulating them for their many years of service to the students who have learned in their classrooms.
In order to make sure you are where you need to be each day, please listen up. Please visit our school website to review the testing calendar if you have any questions about when you should be on campus for each exam. Benchmark, CTE, and EOC exams will be taken each morning while teacher-made exams will be taken in the afternoon. For anyone new to the high school testing schedule, student attendance is only required in the exam they are taking that day, and students only need to be on campus for their exams. If you are riding a bus and staying at school all day, we will have students supervised by staff in non-testing locations in the building. Please bring something with you to read as our guest wi-fi will be turned off to increase our internet bandwidth for online testing.
EOCs, Benchmark tests, and CTE exams will begin each day at 7:15 each day and follow the schedule posted on our website. If you have an EOC and wish to leave school when we have called an end to ALL testing, please bring a parent note and arrange your ride to be ready for you around 11:30. Because CTE and Benchmark exams have a shorter testing window, you will be allowed to release with a parent note when CTE and Benchmark testing has ended around 10 am.
If you are only coming on campus for an afternoon teacher-made test, please be at school no later than 12:15 and report directly to student services to check in.
Students who are on campus all day will be in testing rooms for their exams or supervised in directed areas based on their individual exam schedules.
Parent notes to leave school at the end of testing sessions each day must contain student name, date, contact phone number, and parent name and signature. We strongly encourage notes to come with students each day or you may have to wait to leave until we confirm the validity of an emailed message with a call to parent.
Students will give each day’s note to the teacher he or she is testing with in exchange for a pass to show staff in the main hall at the end of the testing session.
Finally, students have been informed of testing protocols that prohibit electronic devices such as phones and smart watches, please reiterate this information with your child. These must be turned off and secured away from the student until testing has ended. If devices are found in testing situations it can cause an entire class to retake an exam due to a misadministration.
As you review your child's grades, if they need to recover a credit, please sign them up for our 3-week summer school program by visiting the application available on our school website. If you have questions about summer school, please contact your school counselor.
We will maintain our regular final dismissal time Tuesday and Wednesday. For any students on campus Thursday for special exam situations, we will dismiss school for all students 12:15 pm. Enjoy your long weekend. We'll see you Tuesday.
