Fairfield ES Update

Big picture

Thank you Fairfield Families

We are so grateful to our Fairfield families for your support of our students, staff, and learning especially this Fall. We are so thankful to be in school and that we have returned to in-class learning. While the Fall has been different from previous years, there is so much to be thankful for! We are thankful for our students and their parents/guardians for working with us as we follow the KFL&A protocols at school. Thank you also for completing the covid screener each day and for informing us if your child is ill, and for keeping them home until they are symptom free or their symptoms are improving.

Thank you for the great partnerships we have with our Fairfield families!

Equity & Inclusion

As our continued committment to equity and inclusion and in response to staff feedback, we have purchased a wide variety of mentor texts and have placed books in classrooms for teaching and learning. Our goal is for all students to see themselves in the learning we do at school!

LDSB Student Census

Students in Grades 4-8 completed the first-ever LDSB Student Census earlier in November. Students in JK-Grade 3 had information go home with the Progress Reports. If you have not yet completed the survey, please do so by logging into your child's email account and accessing the survey link that was sent out.

More information can also be found at: https://www.limestone.on.ca/board/studentcensus

School Spirit Days

School Spirit Days are always a big hit at Fairfield! These dates are posted on the school calendar on our website (https://fairfield.limestone.on.ca/) as well.

Monday, December 14 - Ugly Holiday Shirt/Sweater/Dress Day

Tuesday, December 15 - Funky Hat or Funky Hair Day

Wednesday, December 16 - Silly Sock Day

Thursday, December 17 - PJ day (no stuffies or slippers please)

Friday, December 18 - Red/Green/Glitter Day

Our Students Are Growing!

We are suggesting that over the holiday break later in December, that families take a moment to check sizing of shoes, clothing and masks. Ensuring that shoes, clothes and masks all fit ensures a more comfortable day of learning at school. Thank you!

We are encouraging all students to have a extra change of clothes in their backbacks in the event that they get wet or dirty and a quick change at school is possible.

Indigo School Fundraiser

The School Council has organized an online Indigo fundraiser! All you have to do is click on the link below (or here: https://indigo.flipgive.com/f/950308) and a portion of your order will be returned to the school. General items have a 2% return to the school and gift cards have a 10% return. Why not purchase a gift card and then use that gift card to make your purchase? That increases the return to the school! Thanks for considering this when thinking about gift giving this holiday season.

Being Prepared for Winter Weather

As the winter approaches, students are encouraged to have appropriate clothing for outdoors. We do go outside for 2 recesses daily and we go out rain or shine. A warm jacket, boots, hats and mitts/gloves help to ensure an enjoyable time outdoors. Classes also go outdoors for learning from time to time so outdoor gear is a needed. Students are encouraged to have an extra pair of dry socks and mitts in their backpacks. We will continue to follow KFL&A Public Health guidelines for cold weather.

Thank you Amherstview Community!

We have an amazing Amherstview community! A local community group recently donated several dozen pairs of gloves and mittens to the school. Sometimes we need extra pairs when gloves get wet or when the temperature drops unexpectedly during the day. We appreciate the donation to our school!

As well, a huge thanks for the very generous donation from one family that has allowed us to give over 20 Fairfield families a significant gift card to help them purchase items for this holiday season. We are overwhelmed and incredibly grateful for the overwhelming kindness and generousity. Thank you!!!

Dieleman's Fundraising

Many thanks for participating in the Dieleman's fundraising initiative that the School Council organized earlier in the fall. All items have been received and have been sent home or delivered to homes. A huge thanks to our School Council for all of their efforts to support our students learning in this way. Proceeds from the fundraiser are going towards learing opportunities for students, including hosting virtual field trips which some of our classes have already participated in.

Online Learning Platforms

Staff have been setting up online learning platforms with their classes. We are doing this for a couple of reasons, including that it can be used as a way for students to submit homework or engage in learning if they are not at school, and for all of us to be prepared if we have to pivot to remote learning. We have not been given any indication that this will happen; however, we want to be prepared to seemlessly transition if ever we have to.

All students/families should have received a login and password information. If you do not have that, please contact the school and we will ensure that you get the information.

Arriving at School

To ensure that we comply with Public Health and avoid gathering, students will be welcomed into the building at 8:55am each day regardless of weather. As such, we strongly encourage families to arrive at Fairfield each day at 8:55am. Please note that students cannot come into the foyer or hallways prior to the start of school. Thank you for your understanding.

When students arrive at school they are to go to their class line up and remain distanced in their line until entry into the school. Parents/guardians are encouraged to wear a mask when dropping off and picking up students.

Progress Reports

Progress Reports went home on Friday November 20th. If you haven't yet returned the tear-off part on page 2, please feel free to return it to the school. If you have indicated that you would like to be contacted about the Progress Report, the classroom teacher will call you to discuss.

Achievement Reports that go home at the end of Term 1 and Term 2 provide marks/grades.

School Council Meetings

Our School Council meets generally on the first Tuesday of the month at 6pm for an approximately 1 hour meeting. This year the meetings have been virtual. The next School Council meeting will take place on Tuesday January 12th, 2021 at 6pm. Please email the school at frfld@limestone.on.ca and the link to the meeting will be sent to you. All parents/guardians are welcome to attend!

Covid-19 Daily Active Screening

All students, staff, bus drivers, bus monitors and visitors to schools must perform a daily self-assessment for symptoms of COVID-19 before each school day and before putting students on a school bus. Staying home when sick is important to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and other viruses in our community.

Parents and caregivers must review the checklist with their child/student before sending them to school each day and before putting them on a school bus.

Please use the online COVID-19 School Screening Tool available in English and French. You can print or download this version in English or French (by clicking on the top right).
