The Week of August 23-27, 2021

Chromebook Distribution Roll Out Started This Week!

This week we started passing out Chromebooks to the Class of 2025. Next week, we start passing out to our Junior class. With a new shipment of Chromebooks coming in, we are able to expedite our process of distribution. By September 3, every student will have access to a device on campus while in the classroom and at home. If your child has a personal device and wishes to use it on campus, they can do so by accessing our Bring Your Own Device Network. If you currently have a district checked-out device, you may continue using that device.

Big picture

Our Freshmen were escorted by their PE teacher this week to pick up a device. Our Juniors and will be escorted by their Social Science teacher next week. Our Sophomores and Seniors will be escorted by their English teachers the following week.

If a student is not able to attend with their class, they will have the opportunity to pick up a device on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:50 - 3:30 outside the Technology Distribution Center (right next to the library) during their designated week.

Each student must turn in a user device agreement form that is signed by both the student and parent before receiving a Chromebook. Below is the user device agreement for your reference. Your child will turn in the user device agreement in exchange for a Chromebook.

Please note that by Tuesday, September 7, every student is expected to have a device on campus for their classes whether district-issued or their personal device.

If you have any further questions, please contact Kevin Wendland at kwendland@wvusd.org.

Calling All High School Student Leaders

Attention all Mustangs!

Student-Led (SLED) is a program entirely run by driven college students centered on leadership, service, and mentorship! We are looking for high school students to become SLED’s next group of amazing mentees and join our virtual community of ambitious leaders! As mentees, high schoolers will have the opportunity to hone their leadership skills and undergo personal growth through team building and self-reflection activities, specialized workshops, and service projects. You’ll also have the chance to grow as individuals alongside like-minded peers from Southern California. Most importantly, you will have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with our college mentors! We are a part of the mentor team this year. Our group consists of various insightful individuals -- former high school student body and club presidents, scholars of different fields, sports captains, community service leaders, and NCAA division-one athletes.

More information about SLED can be found through our website, sledleadership.com, or our Instagram, @sledleadership. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to lead, bond, serve, and inspire! If you are interested, please come to one of our Virtual Informational Sessions on August 10th, 15th, 17th, 19th or 20th from 4-6 PM! You must attend one of these to join the program, and you can find the link to join any of these sessions at linktr.ee/sledleadership. For more information, visit our website sledleadership.com or follow us on Instagram and Tiktok @sledleadership!

Thank you, and we hope to meet you soon!

2021-2022 COVID Response Protocols

First and foremost, we thank you for your partnership and support as we strive to put “Kids First, Every Student, Every Day” with the reopening of all schools.

The safety and wellbeing of our students and staff remain our top priority. All safety recommendations and protocols adhering to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health have been implemented.

The WVUSD 2021-2022 Safe Practices Handbook was emailed to all parents and guardians last week, and it describes the protocols that are in place. We have attached (link below) the handbook with this communication for your reference.

One of the protocols outlined in the handbook is WVUSD’s Response to COVID Situations at School. As linked below, parents will receive a phone call if their child shows symptoms or if their child is in close contact with a person at school with a confirmed positive COVID test.

Parents may receive initial phone calls as a response to positively identified COVID cases. Parents whose children are directed to quarantine will receive follow-up phone calls from our district staff with detailed information. You may receive these follow-up calls during the evening hours.

Aeries One Time Student Health Screening

Parents/guardians must complete a one-time 2021/2022 COVID-19 Student Health Screening form acknowledging responsibility for your child’s daily health screening before entering the school campus. This form is now available on AERIES portal and must be completed for each child that attends WVUSD. A banner will appear in each AERIES account before the start of school.

WVUSD Nutrition Services FAQs

All enrolled students will receive meals at no cost for the 2021-2022 school year.

Hot and cold meals are part of the menus and meals will be served "ready to eat" to our students on campus. The choices at the middle and high schools will be extremely limited as we start school, in order to expedite the lines.

Keep in mind that we have to be prepared to serve all students at the school site within the same breakfast and lunch period pre-COVID with limited staffing.

We thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through our "New Normal."

Please contact Evelyn Lovato in nutrition services should you have any questions or concerns OR click the link below.

School Lunch Policy

Due to safety concerns, we DO NOT accept student lunches in the office. We understand the importance of student nutrition, but we encourage students to either purchase lunch at school or bring their lunch from home. Food, drinks, or other items are NOT to be passed to students through the fence. This is STRICTLY PROHIBITED.

Please Note: Parents can now access the Food Services Department from our website under the Parents tab. On that page, parents can set up and deposit funds into their student's lunch account for purchasing lunch on campus.
