Summer Thoughts

I want to extend a warm welcome to new families joining the high school community. These weekly memos provide an opportunity for me to share upcoming events in a consistent manner. The normal cadence for delivery is Sunday evening at 6 PM, however, my summer edition will be delivered on Mondays. As we make our way into the school year, it is likely you will receive non-memo communications from myself or others that contains either more timely information or information meant for a subset of students.

The high school remains a busy place, even in the summer, with students attending our summer program and finding their way to the counseling office to pick up work permits or other things. Thus, although a slightly more relaxed pace, there is still a bit of activity as we look ahead to the fall. For example, Fall athletic registration is underway and you can learn more about this below or on our athletic page. We have started populating our school calendar with important dates for upcoming events, including the start of school. Specific information regarding the opening of school and required documentation will follow in the Back-to-School letter that will be sent in mid-August. At that time, I will share my thoughts for the upcoming school year more explicitly.

In the meantime, I hope everyone is spending the summer doing something of meaning and I look forward to communicating with you again in a few weeks.

-Dr. Carabatsos

Summer Reading

We are about halfway through the summer, so if you haven't started, now is a good time to start your summer reading. If you don't have the book, you the summer reading link contains links to your local town libraries too. They will be happy to help you get a copy of the book, for free! This summer, I have been reading the book Anxious People by Fredrik Backman, some of you may remember I was reading the same author last summer. Next up for me, is Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.
Big picture

The TriTown School Union/Masconomet Parent University is an opportunity for parents and guardians in Boxford, Topsfield, and Middleton to come together and learn ways to support their children in their educational journey. Parent University is designed to support parents and families across a variety of relevant topics including understanding the methods and practices of school curricula, exploring best supports for social emotional learning, creating a community of belonging and prioritizing parent wellness as a critical component. The conference is designed into a series of engaging presentations and discussions that will provide insight and perspective on topics ranging from academics, character education, and preparing students for the journey ahead. This year’s event will be highlighted by two keynote speakers. Rick Irving, who will talk about how as a community we can recover and regain confidence with a sense of joy in ourselves and our children. Katie Greer, who will share strategies to empower students, educators and parents to use technology in a healthy and safe way. We see this as a unique way to partner with parents to enrich themselves and to help their children thrive.

Childcare will be available.

Athletic Office Communication

This message went out to all parents and students and is intended for students interested in fall sports. A new, online version of the registration form is now live and can be accessed here.

Some helpful hints…

  • You can upload an updated physical exam if necessary, so you may want to have that ready as you prepare to submit the form.

  • The form has three sections. In order to move from section 1 (registration form) to section 2 (medical questionnaire), and from section 2 to section 3 (MIAA Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Pledge) you need to click the “continue button at the bottom of the page. Once section 3 is signed and dated, you simply need to click “complete” and all three sections will submit.

IMPORTANT - The fee must still be submitted by check (fee amounts for each sport are listed on the registration form). In the check MEMO line, please write the full name of the student and the sport. Checks can be dropped off in an envelope in the athletics registration mailbox outside of DOOR #7 or can be mailed to Masconomet Regional H.S., ℅ Jan Smallman, 20 Endicott Rd., Boxford, MA 01921.

The registration form and fall sports practice/tryout dates/times are also posted on our athletics website. If you have any questions, please contact your coach or John Daileanes at jdaileanes@masconomet.org.
