HRE Feed the Hungry & Helps Houston

Way to go Rockets! We collected 2,425 boxes of pasta for the Pasta Bowl and $863.35 for Hurricane Harvey.

Our school and community have another exciting opportunity! We are going to fill a semi-truck with supplies to help an elementary school affected by Hurricane Harvey in Houston, TX! Braeburn Elementary School was flooded to the point that it needs to be rebuilt. In the meantime, the students and staff of Braeburn have been relocated to a former high school. They are in desperate need of supplies. The school's population is 99% Free and Reduced, and 80% ENL. Many of the students' homes were also impacted by the hurricane.

Our big goal is to go beyond this initial truck donation and "adopt" this school in need. We are hoping to match up classrooms, create pen pals, Skype, and much more!

Your child should have brought home information about the supply drive that goes from September 14th - September 23rd. Filling a semi is a HUGE task, so we need your help to spread the word throughout the community and seek donations!

Weekly G.R.I.P. Winners

All HRE students know about G.R.I.P. - an acronym which stands for Gratitude Respect Integrity Purpose. Students may earn "GRIP SLIPS" by demonstrating any one of these character traits. Each week, teachers draw one name from their classroom Grip Slips and that student is the Grip Slip winner for the week from that classroom. Those names are then entered into a weekly drawing per grade level; one name is drawn per grade level and those students come to the office to choose a small prize. We are pleased to announce our Grip Slip winners for the week:

Kindergarten: Adelyn Kollmeyer from Mrs. Howard's class demonstrated Respect.

1st Grade: Brandon Tullis from Mrs. Simmond's class demonstrated Purpose.

2nd Grade: Alek Shaw from Mrs. Edwards' class demonstrated Gratitude.

3rd Grade: Bennett Tullis from Mrs. Peterson's class demonstrated Integrity.

4th Grade: Irene Okab from Mrs. Washburn's class demonstrated Respect.
