Perry Hall Pathways
To PHHS Freshmen and Sophomores from the College Counselor
Spring is Here!
What Freshmen and Sophomores Should Be Doing Now
-Summer – Plan now to do something productive with your summer. You may be able to find a part time job. There are lots of places that need volunteers: the public library, day care centers, hospitals, retirement communities, summer camps for younger children. We all benefit from doing something for someone else and experiences like this will look great on your resume’.-Check out the employment/internship and the service learning bulletin boards in the Counseling Office for ideas!
-Testing – Colleges that have highly competitive admissions often require SAT Subject Tests. Check college websites and register for May or June testing if you plan to take Subject tests related to any of your courses. For example, sophomores taking AP World History may want to take the World History Subject test since they preparing for the AP Exam anyway. Remember that the AP Exams are in early May so you may want to take Subject tests in June. Check the College Board website http://sat.collegeboard.org/about-tests or see your school counselor if you would like more information.
--Plan to visit colleges. Many have Spring Open Houses (see below for some local dates). Remember to ask questions and take notes! See below for questions to ask!
