WEST WILDCAT NEWS
May 5, 2022
Principal's Message
Wow-what a whirlwind of weather we have had! It matches the swings in emotions we often experience at the middle level during these final weeks of the school year. In the midst of all the end of year activities, I want to make sure that our WMS families have the necessary information regarding school-issued student devices as we close this school year.
The most pressing need is with our 8th grade students, as we prepare for them to transition to the high school in the fall. On Wednesday, May 18, we will collect all 8th grade WMS-issued student laptops and chargers during 1st period. Please, make sure your student brings both their laptop and charger on this day. We also ask that any personalized stickers be removed from the device before turning in. Cherry Creek High School will be in communication regarding the process for 9th graders to receive new devices for next fall. Fines for damaged/lost chargers, as well as damaged/lost devices, will be assessed as our Technology team checks in devices in the days following the May 18th turn in. If you have any questions about student device turn in, please contact our Tech Support Assistant, Paul Worden, at pworden@cherrycreekschools.org.
For our current sixth and seventh grade students, they will keep their school-issued device and the charger over the summer. It is important that these devices are stored in a safe place over the summer so that your student can find it in August and bring it back to school in good, working condition, as this will be their device through the end of their eighth grade year at WMS. During the summer months, students should not install games or other apps, disassemble or otherwise make changes to their school device. When we begin school in August, students will need to return with their devices ready to use.
I would like to close with a huge thank you to our WMS community for their outpouring of care and appreciation that was shared with our WMS staff for Teacher Appreciation week. It was such a wonderful week because of your generosity.
With gratitude,
MĂłnica M. GarcĂa

WMS CLINIC CORNER
Allergy Awareness
- Please have conversations with your student about the importance of not sharing snacks at school.
- As we celebrate the end of the year, be aware of the most common childhood allergies when purchasing snacks (milk, wheat, peanuts, soy, and tree nuts).
Student Medication
- If your student has medication in the clinic you must pick it up prior to the end of the school year. Medication will NOT be transferred to your student's next school or summer programs.
Illness Protocol
- If your student is experiencing vomiting, diarrhea, or a fever they must stay home until they are 24 hours symptom free without the use of medication.
- Call the clinic with all positive COVID-19 cases (720-554-5117).
- Cherry Creek School District continues to follow the CDC recommendations regarding COVID-19 management https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/your-health/quarantine-isolation.html.
WMS DEANS
We want to remind families that if your child is planning to ride a bus with another student after school, we ask families to submit a "Permission to Ride" form at least one school day in advance and submit that to the Dean's Office for approval. Those forms can be located at this link. If there are any questions, please reach out to the WMS Dean's Office.
Thank you, and let's finish this year strong Wildcats!

WMS VOLUNTEERS
Update to CCSD Volunteer/Partner Process
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Please see the below message regarding the new CCSD Volunteer/Partner Process. If you are currently volunteering or plan to volunteer in the future, please complete the online volunteer form. It should only take a few minutes to complete. We want to thank you in advance and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school.
New Colorado legislation has prompted greater need to screen and document volunteers in our schools. Therefore, beginning January 2022, we must ensure that every volunteer completes a brief application to support activities in CCSD schools. This information will be automatically linked to the Raptor System. The good news is they only need to complete this form once per school year, and it will meet the requirement to volunteer in all CCSD buildings.
To access the form, please click on the following link: https://apps.raptortech.com/Apply/NzU0OmVuLVVT
Definitions
- Volunteers are guests who are supporting students, completing tasks, and under the immediate supervision and direction of District licensed personnel.
- Visitors are guests who are solely entering the building to conduct business such as participate in a meeting, eat lunch with their student, or attend a school sponsored activity.
The safety and security of our students and staff remains our top priority. Every person entering our buildings must have a District ID or a badge printed from the Raptor System.
Thank you again for your continued support.

WMS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Will my student keep their computer over summer vacation or turn it in before school ends?
6th graders who will be going into 7th grade and 7th graders going into 8th grade will keep their computers over summer break. Please, store computers in a safe place so that your student can find it and bring it back to school with them in August.
8th graders going into high school will turn in their computer in May before school ends and will receive a new computer when they start high school.More information will be provided in early May.
Can I drop off lunch or let my student order from a food delivery app?
You can drop off lunch for your student and students are allowed to order from a food delivery app. However, students are only permitted to enter security to pick up food items during their designated lunch period. If food is brought when your student is in class, there is a "student delivery" shelf the items can be placed on until your student can retrieve them during lunch. Regrettably, if the food delivery app arrives late (after the student's lunch time), students will not be allowed to return to security to pick up the items until the end of school.
