Did you know?
Mrs. Imhoff's & Mrs. Kahler's 1st grade did some reflection and also looked to the future. Here are some of their comments:
Going on a measure hunt!
Inches and Feet!
Today, after learning about inches and feet, Mrs. Blanco's class went on a measure hunt. Small groups of students explored the classroom, rulers in hand measuring everything in their path!
Following the hunt, the class decided to measure the length of a blue whale - 110 feet. They started in the corner of the second grade hallway and ended up in Mrs. Lake's room! Conveniently, our floor tiles are 12 inches long, so the students knew they only had to count 110 tiles. (See photo below.)
A Note from Ms. Peri:
Thank you for permitting your students to participate in this unique and generous after-school painting class creating artwork on stretched canvas. I am adding 3 more classes to give the middle school students time to complete their paintings.
Finished work will be exhibited at the exceptional Art Gallery at the Silvermine Arts Gallery in May and you will be informed and invited. I will also send home permission slips for your student to participate in an online gallery with Artsonia.
Due to having only 6 classes and needing more time to complete the artwork, I was given permission to add 3 more classes onto this project.
Due to the current spike in COVID cases, I feel it is safer to schedule those classes in February to allow everyone to get back on track.
This is free to your child and is a wonderful opportunity to support their excitement for art,🎨🎨🎨🎨
The added dates are: Wednesdays 2/9;2/16;2/23, from 3:45-5:15.
NPS Gifted & Talented Program
Norwalk Public Schools is committed to educating our children to their highest potential, affirming that outstanding talents are present in children and youth from all cultural groups and across all economic strata. The program offers opportunities for peer groups to challenge and learn from one another and develops a desire for excellence and a sense of individual responsibility to the school community and to a changing society.
The newly redesigned Gifted & Talented program will provide advanced, conceptually challenging, in-depth cross-curricula content which focuses on authentic research and problem solving skills. Staff will provide facilitation to support students to become independent and self-aware learners. Language, reading and writing are embedded across all disciplines. Differentiation allows for acceleration in all curriculum areas as may be appropriate for the individual student through curriculum compacting.
The program is aligned with best practices of the National Association of Gifted Children and is guided by the Renzulli Model of Schoolwide Enrichment.

A NPS Health and Safety Reminder:
To help keep our students and staff safe, we ask parents to keep their children home if they are not feeling well or showing any signs of illness such as fever, headache, sore throat, problems and Stomach , congestion etc.
If your child goes to school while showing symptoms, he/she will be sent home. These students will not be able to return to school for 10 days or until the school nurse receives a negative Covid test. Types of tests accepted for students are: PCR, quick antigen or quick home test. If using a home test, NPS requires a photo of the test, with confirmation of the student's name and date, as well as a visible signature of the parent/tutor, on a sheet of paper, next to the test.
We appreciate your understanding and support.
**UPDATE: ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR IN SCHOOL TESTING BELOW**
This weekly testing program is federally funded and these are their current eligibility requirements:
- Eligible Grade Levels: Unvaccinated students in all public schools grades PK -12 (PK must be co-located within a K-12 school);
- Students who test positive for COVID-19 shouldn't participate in the Project COVID DeteCT program for the 90 days following their positive test, in accordance with CDC recommendations. Proof of positive status should be communicated to the school, in coordination with the respective local health department
- Students recently vaccinated should discontinue the weekly screening program after the 14-day period has elapsed after their second vaccination. Please reach out to your school's administrator to remove your child from the testing program.
Eligibility requirements can be found here: https://portal.ct.gov/.../Project-COVID-DeteCT...
In collaboration with Progressive Diagnostics, NPS will offer in-school PCR testing for all unvaccinated NPS students including athletes, beginning the week of January 3, 2022.
Research shows that school-based screening testing helps to identify cases sooner, rather than waiting for symptoms to develop. Progressive Diagnostics will offer free testing once a week at each school to unvaccinated students, not exhibiting any Covid-related symptoms, with parental consent.
Consent forms can be accessed by clicking here: https://progressive-diagnostics.com/school.../consent-form/ .
