Owl News
Creating strong home school connections for student success!
Welcoming our New Staff Members
Hello everyone! I wanted to dedicate this Owl News to welcoming our new Lovett team members. This is a very challenging time for teachers to start in a new position. They will not have the luxury of connecting face to face with their colleagues, school community and students. I am already so proud of each one of our new teammates for the way they have taken on this challenge on connecting, learning, and preparing to teach in a virtual setting. They are so dedicated and so very excited to be working with our students at Lovett. I hope you will join me in welcoming then and supporting them as they start in their teaching roles at Lovett.
Please also look out for an additional newsletter that will focus on details for the upcoming school year.
Welcome Rachel Jeffries to our Kindergarten Team
Hi there, my name is Rachel Jeffries and I’m so excited to be a Kindergarten teacher at LOVETT Elementary! I myself attended Lovett and believe in all Lovett has to offer, teaching the whole child, a wonderful community, top leadership, high quality academics and an amazing fine arts program. I can’t wait to get to know each student but first I want you to know a few things about me!
I was born and raised in Houston and I am the product of HISD schools. I have 3 children and love animals. I studied at the University of Houston, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Teaching and Learning. I have a strong background in early childhood development and have worked with students of all ages and abilities during my professional/collegiate career in education. I taught Pre-k for 12 years, 6 of which I served as the lead Pre-k teacher at the Owl’s Nest Preschool. I love to learn and am currently attending UT Tyler for my Masters in Reading. Each experience has helped me grow as a teacher and understand the importance of quality education.
Welcome Carlos Trejo to our Second Grade Team
Hello Lovett family!
My name is Carlos Trejo and I will be teaching 2nd grade math and science this upcoming school year. I graduated from the University of Houston-Victoria in December of 2019 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. I have worked at Lovett as a teaching assistant and extended day staff member over the last five years, and I am excited to continue with my Lovett family in a new teaching role.
One of the things I enjoy the most is music! I am a Trumpet/ Cornet player. I have been since I was a 6th grader in a small South Texas town called McAllen Texas. While at Lovett I have even had an opportunity to play in the end of the year band concerts. I am a big soccer fan and play on an indoor soccer league team. I have a 7-year-old Airedale terrier/schnauzer mix dog named "Taco." I rescued Taco when he was just a puppy and he has been delightful. I look forward to getting to know our students and parents this upcoming school year!
Welcome Katie White to our third grade team
An educator for over 15 years, Katie White has taught a little of everything from dance to algebra. She grew up near the beach in Corpus Christi, but her roots run deep in northwest Arkansas. She and husband Pete have three kids, two dogs, a box turtle, and a dozen goldfish, give or take. In her free time, Katie enjoys hiking a new trail and reading a good book. She always appreciates the fresh perspective that her students bring to the table.
Welcome Faye Casell to our Special Education Team
I am thrilled to join Lovett as a Resource teacher. After completing a Master's degree in Education and Special Education from Columbia University, I worked in public and private schools in New York City, Austin and Washington, D.C. before settling in Houston. I've spent the last several years consulting and coordinating an early childhood special education program in Houston and I am excited to continue my teaching with colleagues and families of Lovett. I am married and met my husband in the 5th grade. We have two vivacious children and one mischievous dog. I am a lover of the arts, enjoy reading, riding my bike on the bayou, and taking in the many cultural happenings of Houston with my family.
