Help Set a New World Record!

On Thursday, October 4, 2012, millions of children around the world will participate in Read for the Record by attempting to break a world record by reading a common book. This will be featured on NBC's Today Show. It is an effort to promote literacy and the importance of early childhood education. It is organized through Jumpstart which focuses on the inequalities of early childhood education and works to create a world where all students start school "prepared to succeed."

This year's book is Ladybug Girl and the Bug Squad by David Soman and Jacky Davis. It is available online in both English and Spanish at

I would love to help you celebrate this day. If you are interested please see me for a time to co-teach this activity. If you do this in your classroom please let me know so I can submit the number of people that participated. The Read for the Record website has many helpful materials to support this day. I hope you will consider joining me to Read for the Record!
