Wonderful Year

We had a great year and we felt like things got somewhat back to normal. We received a lot of support from our parents, extended families, and local businesses. Every time we need something you all step up. This is a special community and a wonderful place to work.


Mrs. Travaglino's chorus and band concert is May 19th at 6:00 PM in the cafeteria. Mrs. Travaglino always puts together a great show. In other news we had two students selected for the Hillborough Young Songwriter's contest. They both wrote and sang their songs at Sparkman's Wharf, and we were very proud of them. Mrs. Colucci, Ms. Hurman, Mrs. Travaglino, Officer Hogue, and myself enjoyed the program. All the kids truly have guts to get up there and sing something they wrote from their heart.


We are culminating our year with our Clap Out for our fifth graders. We are going to do our clap out around our Shillington car loop like last year. Last year our parents decorated their cars and it was a lot of fun for everyone. The event starts promptly at 11:00, and our gates to the car line close at 10:45. You can park at the golf course if you would like to join after that. This is for our fifth grade students and it has always been a nice tradition to end our year at Claywell.


A special thank you to all those who were able to volunteer. We appreciate all the PTA support and those who were able to serve on our School Advisory Committee. Have a wonderful summer. We will be looking for your support next year too. Please make sure your kids are reading and doing life enriching activities so they can continue to gain experiences.

We are in search of people to fill positions on our PTA Board. Please click on the link below if you would like to make an invaluable contribution to our school. As you will see when you open the link below there are many opportunities to help us at Claywell. We are specifically looking for a President and VP of membership, but again there are a lot of ways to help even with the busiest of schedules. Every hour that you contribute is one less hour our staff can focus on instruction.

Fifth graders you still have the opportunity to our Science camp. We picked fun experiments that will help your child prepare for their FSA Science test on May 17th and May 18th. If you haven't already done so please fill out the form below let your child's teacher know that you are attending so we can plan accordingly.

Opening Up to Volunteer Opportunities Next Year

We are going to continue our current procedures for next year. We value volunteers, and we need to know who is on our campus at all times. If you would like to volunteer next year the forms should be available on our district website in July.


We are going to allow parents to come on campus the first few days of school to walk your child to class. After that we will continue with our normal procedure of dropping your child off a the exterior door. We found through Covid that our kids gained a lot of independence and were able to get to class very well. This also helps us to keep a more secure campus. Again, if you would like to volunteer in a specific way we would love to have you on campus. We will also resume our night events to create the community we have always had at Claywell.

Teacher requests

I had a few teacher requests this year and we do not request specific teachers at Claywell. We haven't done this in several years. I can say I would put my daughter in any of our teacher classrooms this year. That has always been my mantra as an administrator. We have excellent people teaching our students at Claywell. We specifically sit down and discuss each child in each grade level and look at their data, social emotional data, and the correct fit for the child and teacher. We do a pretty good job at it, and our pairings are successful. We also create heterogeneous classes with students of all abilities in each classroom. If there are any specific needs your child has to have a successful learning environment you can certainly send me an email. Thank you.
