WMS Pool Testing and Family Update
April 9, 2021
Good morning Wamsutta Families,
The pool testing from both Monday and Tuesday, which included 94% of staff and 48% of students over those two days, produced no positive results. As stated in many prior updates, you can choose to get your student involved in pool testing at any time. The directions to do so are here. As half of our students are back full time, and the other half will return full time shortly, we would truly appreciate your consent to test. It may be an essential tool in preventing wide-scale spread of the virus, which is still very much with us, which could force closures of classrooms, grades levels, or even the school.
The return of the 5th and 6th graders full time has gone well. While it is wonderful to hear the volume in the hallways return to more boisterous levels, we will need student cooperation in keeping the building safe by remembering all the safety protocols that got us to this point. So far, the kids are doing an awesome job.
In other news, the new traffic pattern seems to be working as well as we can get it to work in terms of 7th and 8th pickups taking place in our front parking lot. We made a slight adjustment to lining up in two rows down there to accommodate all the cars we will have once everyone is back full time. We appreciate your patience as we fight through this traffic mess until the end of the year.
I have notices about virtual attendance on in person days, a PTO meeting notice link, 5th/6th grade ice cream "social" next week, and reminders about our book fair, our PTO Spring Fundraiser, and the Wednesday remote schedule for 7/8, all of which are wrapping up shortly.
Thank you for your time.
Joseph Connor, WMS
Remote Learning on In-Person Days
While we appreciate students and families trying to stay current in classes while on vacation or other reasons, those students are marked absent. Teachers will be opening their Homeroom google meets to check in with students who are quarantined, but are not expected to do so when they don't have students under quarantine.
In short, students can't just choose to work remotely for any reason they wish. I welcome any questions or concerns.

A pre-packed, nut-free scoop of vanilla will be provided to all 5th and 6th graders that day, and if there are any other dietary restrictions that would prevent your child from participating, let me know and we can make an alternative available.
We'll get to the 7th and 8th graders at another time, as well as any students observing Ramadan.

LAST NOTICE: WMS Spring Book Fair
Wamsutta has found a great way to celebrate the start of Spring with our first in-person
Book Fair of the 2020-2021 school year. The Book Fair will run for one more week so every
student has an opportunity to visit the fair in the safest way possible. As always, the fair
is also available on-line for any student who cannot attend in person. A percentage
of the profits will go to purchasing much needed books for our library. We are looking forward
to a very successful fair. If you have any questions, please contact Joanne Rohen at jrohen@attleboroschools.com.
LAST NOTICE: New Pick-Up Traffic Pattern For The Rest of the Year
The map is below, but the short of it is that drop-off is unchanged for everyone. 5 and 6 pickup is unchanged as well. Anyone picking up students that cross the 5/6 and 7/8 boundary stay the same as well.
If you are just picking up students in 7th and 8th grade, you will now enter the campus as usual and take an immediate left and line up between the cars in the staff parking lot. See the map for more details. We may have to change who goes where once we see this live, but the two pick-up spots will be with us for the rest of this year. I welcome any questions.
Running Notice: PTO Fundraiser
Our spring fundraiser will continue until April 19th. The attachments below have the information you need to participate if you wish to. There are gifts appropriate for the Mother's Day/Father's Day/Graduation season.
While we don't wish to pressure our kids to be professional salespeople, there are small prizes available for students selling a few items and some very nice prizes for students who want to try to sell a lot.
This link can get you started, or you can read more about the specifics below.
We hope families will participate if they can.
