NEWS FROM THE CORRAL
September 7, 2015
Good afternoon Pony Parents,
For those of you new to GMS I want to take a few moments to introduce myself. I grew up in a small town in North Texas called Nocona. It's in the middle of Montague County and my roots there run deep! I had 51 students in my graduating class and we are all still close today. Raised in a small town with eleven aunts and uncles meant there was always someone making sure I did the right thing! The world is so different for our children today and it takes us all working together to help them make good choices.
This begins my fourth year at GMS as Instructional Leader and I truly would not be in any other place. We have developed a phenomenal culture of learning, acceptance, and excitement which is evident each day among our students. Learning is at high levels and the building is filled with teachers who teach with passion and understanding. I love coming to work! Every day is a great day to be a Pony.
I hope you noticed the wristband stating @gms YOU Matter, on your child's arm last week. We kicked off a year long challenge for students to learn to give affirmation to their friends, teachers, and families through written thanks instead of waiting to receive approval through social media. Our staff knows that middle school students depend a great deal on what others think about them and many look for that affirmation on their media accounts. It's our mission to ensure each child knows they matter at GMS every day!
I am attaching our link to the Student Code of Conduct handbook should you have questions on GCISD policies:

Please visit our GCISD FIRST website which consists of groups of parents, community members and GCISD staff members. The committee is currently working on future goals and objectives for our district. The website includes agendas, meeting notes, and has a place for you to submit questions. Please get involved in the efforts to continue to make GCISD a sought after place to educate children. http://www.gcisdfirst.net/index.html
Should you need information on free and reduced lunches please go to the following link: http://www.gcisd-k12.org/Page/535
Finally our communications department has developed a Thoughtexchange site where you are able to provide input on four developed questions relating to our schools. Please visit http://gcisd-k12.thoughtexchange.com/invitation to participate.
Below are the weekly events for your calendar. We always enjoy meeting you and talking about the great things happening at GMS. Thank you for trusting us with your child's education and we promise to live up to your expectations. Have a great week!
Blessings,
Linda Young, Principal
