Monday Mission Memo
February 11, 2019
Interim Superintendent's Update
School Leaders of the Diocese of Cleveland, I write with few key updates this Monday and several more resources below. Heart of the Mission First, we are less than one month until our Catholic schools’ “Heart of the Mission” day in downtown Cleveland on March 8. The OCFE is picking up the cost of delivering this professional growth experience (except for transportation and parking to the site). The content will feature local and national experts, as well as dialogue in the room. This is not your typical PD session. Rather, it is designed to position us to best deliver on our mission and will introduce movements that will be central to the future of Catholic education in the Diocese of Cleveland. If you have not yet responded to register (including specific names of attendees) please see below for more details as well as some other helpful resources. The Culture Project International We are excited to take next steps in planning to welcome the Culture Project International to a new missionary residence in the Diocese of Cleveland. If you did not meet them when they were here in the fall, you can view a brief introductory video here or see their invitation video from Toledo (informing schools from that diocese to invite the missionaries in). These resources will be a powerful addition to our schools as we seek to proclaim the Gospel through word and deed. OCSAA Spring AVS Finally, we are also just a few weeks away from our spring AVS check, to be completed by March 1. Tracey Arnone is hard at work with initial reviews. It is important to note that, because we have paused to study and reform the Religious Education educator certification process, these again will not be cause for a penalty in the spring review. Our goal as an OCFE is to be clear about the current religious education certification status of all educators prior to the end of this school year as we map out the revisions to the current program. I look forward to seeing many of you downtown at the Respecting Human Dignity conference. Thank you for all that you do for our schools and communities, Frank O’Linn
March AVS News
ANNUAL VERIFICATION OF STANDARDS
MARCH AUDIT EXPLAINED:
The OCSAA Commission voted in Spring 2018 to have OCSAA review the Annual
Verification of Standards reports twice a year for compliance.
We are approaching our second review. Please be aware of the following in order to have this
process unfold “without a hitch”:
1. Schools should check compliance for Fire Inspections and Health and Safety Inspections
on AVS 1; and, BCI and FBI background checks, license/certificate/permit expiration
dates, as well as updates and any new hires or new additions.
2. Your (Arch) Diocesan Advisory member(Tracey Arnone) will review your AVS as
submitted on the OCSAA web portal and s/he will report to you, prior to March 1st any
errors or issues, so that you may correct said errors or issues.
3. Your (Arch) Diocesan Advisory member or contact person will then report to Theresa Bowser by
March 1st any outstanding errors or issues.
4. On March 1st,the OCSAA office will begin the review and will inform the Commission of problem
areas or non-compliance issues.
5. The Commission members will then decide which schools require a fine for noncompliance.
6. The OCSAA office will then inform the schools of any fines imposed.
Please consult Theresa Bowser if you have any questions as
you complete AVS 1 and/or AVS 2 on the OCSAA web portal. You are also encouraged to contact
Tracey Arnone or Marsha Hecker for assistance as well.
