First Day Procedures - 1st and 2nd Graders
Remember, this is a late start Wednesday!
Teachers will being to gather on the blacktop at 9:35 to meet students. Please note, that typically Wednesday supervision begins at 9:40. We will go back to our regular schedule following the first day of school.
First Day Procedures for First and Second Graders
On the first day of school, parents who will typically use the carpool lane, may park, and walk their child to the blacktop on the south side of the building. Here, your child’s teacher will be available to greet your child outside of the school. They will have a sign with their name, so you can easily identify where to go. Children will be lined up, and escorted into the building by their teacher.
If you are unable to park and accompany your child to the blacktop, you may use the carpool lane to drop your student (following the procedures mentioned earlier in this newsletter), and staff will be available to assist your child, and guide them to their teacher. If your child takes the bus, there will be adults available to help them find their teacher on the first day of school.
Please remember, following the first day, all parents are asked to utilize the carpool lane, and will not be able to park and get out of their vehicles. On the second day of school, we will resume carpool lane drop off, and normal entry procedures, where students enter the building immediately upon drop off.
Daily Drop off and Pick Up Procedures
The following procedures have been put in place to make the beginning and end of the day safe and smooth. We ask that all parents assist us in assuring that every child at Lyon is safe by following these rules. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Students will be let into the building at 8:40am. This is when we will begin to allow students out of their cars. Dismissal will begin at 3:40pm. This is when we will begin to place students into cars.
All parents are asked to remain in their vehicle and pull up alongside the canopy at the front of the building to unload/load their children on the curbside. The line for cars starts at the student loading area and continues around the outer perimeter of the bus lanes. Parents are not allowed to park and walk their children through the parking area to/from a vehicle. If a child is having difficulty and requires adult assistance, please pull your car into one of the 15 minute spaces. We will follow this same carpool lane procedure for mid-day Kindergarten pick up as well, following the AM session.
All traffic should go around the bus lanes and remain in the car lane for drop-off/pick-up. Only a single lane of traffic will be allowed in the inner circle of the driveway along the front of the school. Anyone needing to enter the school for a before/after school meeting or activity is asked to park in the outer lot and utilize the crosswalk near the building to cross. The only exceptions to this are vehicles with designated disabled parking permits and the student services transportation vehicles.
Parents will not be allowed to park and wait in the school hallway or under the front canopy of the school for their child, but must remain in their vehicle before and after school. If your child is assigned a bus please use this service whenever possible. If you will be picking children up at the end of the day, please write a note indicating your child will be a car rider or a walker. Your signature, your child's teacher's name, along with the correct day/date, will help in making the correct changes.
If on a rare occasion your transportation arrangements require a change for your child during the school day, please call the office before 3:00 p.m. This will allow the office staff ample time to notify your child’s teacher of the change.
Students are not allowed to ride any bus other than the one assigned. Thus, a child may not ride home on another bus for a play date or go to another child’s home if it requires a change from their assigned bus. Parents will need to make their own transportation arrangements for this purpose.
Please remember, you may only pick up your child at one of these doors if your child walks to school. Otherwise, your child will need to be picked up in the carpool lane via your vehicle.
If there is an occurrence, where a child needs to be a front or back door walker due to an appointment, etc., please send a note with your child’s teacher, and we can accommodate this request.
If you take the path behind Lyon School (to the south of the construction site), you may pick up your child at the MPR Door near the playground (Door G.)
If your child will regularly be walking to and/or from school, they will be a “front door walker”, and can be picked up on foot near the carpool line.
Finally, please observe and follow all directions of the Lyon staff. They are present to assist in a safe and efficient pick up for your children. Thank you again for your cooperation with these procedures.
Arrival/Dismissal Kindergarten (Car Lane and Walkers)
AM Mid-Day Pickup (11:25am)- Carpool Lane will be in the front of the building, as it is for morning and afternoon drop off for all students. Parents are asked to remain in their vehicles. If a student is a walker, they will pick up their child in this location as well.
PM Mid-Day- Drop Off (12:55)- Carpool Lane and buses will drop off students in the SOUTH parking lot. Please remain in your cars if you drive your student to school. Students who are walkers, will also meet in this area, on the south blacktop, near the kindergarten entry door.
