General News!

Week of February 8th -12th:

This week is the last week we will be entering grades before the Progress Reports that will be going home next Wednesday. If your student has missing assignments, now would be the time to get them in! Many students do not seem to be taking us very seriously when we have explained due dates, grace periods, alternative assignments, etc... If they are not taking advantage of these , and monitoring their PowerSchool accounts, their Progress Reports will surely be a reflection of that.

Upcoming Dates to Remember:

No School- President's Day Holiday, February 15th

Progress Reports Home-February 17th

WOW/ZAP - Thursday, February 11,18,25, and March 4th

Language Arts- Ms. Waxman

This week in reading/writing we will be researching some of the concentration camps of WWII. Students will determine the location, purpose, the aftermath of the camps, who was in charge, and hopefully find some stories from survivors of these camps. It should be interesting!

We will continue our practice with the different verbals, gerunds, participles, and infinitives. Hopefully you student can shed some light on these for you if you ask them.

Our set of root words for "Body Parts", will be quizzed on this Friday. It includes: cap, capit (head), cor, cour, cord, card (heart),man (hand), and ped,pod (foot). The StudyStack link is available for them in their Google classroom.

TweenTribune is in week 5, February 8th through the 14th by noon. Please ask your students to show you their progress with these. Many of them are seeing improvements in their scores and should be gradually increasing their lexile levels. For those who are still not doing these, it is definitely affecting their overall average...get on it!

Math- Mrs. Holloway

This week in Mathematics:

This week we are finishing up Unit 5. Students will be taking their mastery assessment on Wednesday and Thursday. Students will be given a review sheet tomorrow to use to study. Students had a mini-project due today. Many did not turn it in. Our next unit is Linear Models and Tables. In this unit we will continue our work with rate of change, slope, and understanding different representations of functions. We will also be learning about scatter plots and using and understanding bivariate data. Please remind your student about having all materials for class, and getting work in on time. Looking forward to a great week. Remind your student that they can go on and practice identifying functions in y-intercept form and graphing.

Mrs. Holloway

Social Studies- Mr. Salser

We will be talking about the great depression, FDR’s New Deal for the U.S. recovery from the Great Depression, and the build up to World War II. We will focus intently on the factors politically, economically, and militarily why WWII started. Another key emphasis point will be the political standoff between Germany and France/Great Britain, U.S. and Japan, Italy and North Africa.
