Halloween
We are excited to welcome families to our Halloween Parade on Monday, October 31, at 2:30pm!
We will be having the Trail for Treaters/Halloween Parade primarily inside this year. The two viewing areas for the parade will be in the gym or out under the overhang in the front of the building.
Many families will be attending the Halloween Parade. For the safety of your child, please send your child's teacher a note or email if you plan to bring your child home with you at the end of the parade.
If you plan to view the parade from the gym, we ask that you stay seated and patiently wait for students to finish trick-or-treating throughout the building prior to exiting (this could be an additional 10 minutes). If you exit too soon, it will interfere with the Trail for Treaters route that we have set up for our 450 students. Thank you for your support!
After the parade has concluded, teachers will bring their classes outside to their "dismissal spots". Parents will head OUTSIDE to pick up their children. Our normal drive-through dismissal will not be possible on this day. Please plan to walk up to your student's "dismissal spot" to sign out your child.

Thanksgiving Meals
Friendship Wesleyan Church is providing Thanksgiving meal baskets this year for families in need of encouragement or support in our local area. The meal consists of an uncooked turkey, boxed mashed potatoes and gravy, rolls and butter, canned vegetables, and a dessert. There is enough in each basket for a family of six. If you need a second basket, just let us know. You can pick up your basket on November 19th, from 12-3pm, at Friendship Wesleyan Church (1285 102nd Ave. Plainwell, MI 49080). If there is an extenuating circumstance where a basket needs to be dropped off, please reach out. If you would like to receive a meal, please email Mrs. Bender at abender@otsegops.org, or call 269-694-7826 to be added to the list.

10 Tips to Boost Your Child’s Friendship-Making Skills by Dr. Michele Borba
Friends play an enormous part in our kids’ lives. The good news is that making friends involves skills that can be learned. Here are ways you can make a difference in your child’s social life.
Reinforce smiling! A trait that well-liked kids use often is to smile, so reinforce your child’s smiling efforts. “What a great smile!” or “That smile of yours always wins people over.”
Boost manners. When it comes to friends, manners do count and are appreciated by other parents.
Encourage listening. Listening lets a friend know another is concerned about their needs. Tell your child, “Focus on what your friend is saying. Hear their words!”
Teach deal breakers. Learning “Rock, Paper, Scissors,” flipping a coin, and “Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe” are great for reducing conflicts, breaking ties, and deciding who goes first.
Stress assertiveness. Encouraging kids to “look at the color of the speaker’s eyes” helps them appear more confident as well as interested in the speaker’s words.
Make time for play. Carve time into your child’s schedule for play dates and social interactions to expand social competence.
Practice introductions. “Hi! My name is John.” “Glad to meet you.” “You’re good at soccer.” “Do you live around here?” “Do you go to school here?”
Teach kindness. Popular kids care, share, and are helpful. Praise your child’s prosocial behaviors so she knows kindness matters.
Talk about emotions. Kids can’t care about others if they can’t recognize feelings. So, use emotions and words, and point out facial expressions, voice, tone, and body language.
