Character Education…Our Shared Responsibility
Dear Families,
Character education teaches the habits of thought and deed that help people live and work together as families, friends, neighbors, communities, and nations. Our staff at Adams Elementary are looking for students who are demonstrating Fortitude, which is our character word this month.
Please encourage your child to practice each word of the month. There is a different character word each month. Teachers recognize one student every month who stand out demonstrating each trait.
WORD OF THE MONTH
Inquisitive
Given to examination or investigation. / Inclined to ask questions.

NURSE'S CORNER
DRESS FOR THE WEATHER
WINTER TIME!! Please send your students to school prepared to go outside and play even when there is snow and cold weather. We recommend a heavy coat, gloves/mittens, hat, scarf and boots or warm shoes.
Remember to put your child’s name on the inside of their coat in case it gets lost.
OFFICE TIPS
ATTENDANCE
We need your help. Students who miss just one or two days of school each month can fall seriously behind. We know this is a difficult time for many families and want to support you in any way we can. In order to do so your student needs to be in school so they can communicate your needs. Many schools have resources in place to help families. If you are in need of resources, please contact your student’s counselor and they may be able to help meet the needs of your family.
Being absent can lead to doing poorly in school. Students who miss many days of school are more likely to:
• Fail their classes.
• Dropping out of high school.
• Have poor relationships with parents and teachers.
Please remember that every absence matters and just a couple days each month adds up. You are key to improving your child’s attendance.
What should you do?
Please contact the attendance office.
What happens if unexcused absences continue?
The school will request a meeting with the students, their family, and the school’s community truancy board. The focus of the meeting is to remove barriers to attendance and find ways to ensure the student attends school.
What happens if unexcused absences continue when students return to school buildings? Washington State Truancy law states if a student under age 17 has seven (7) or more unexcused absences, the school is required to file a petition with the juvenile court alleging a violation of the mandatory attendance law.
Again, we are here to support you and are dedicated to helping your child to get the best education and support. Please let us know how we can help do that.
Sincerely,
Your Office Staff
