Week 13
Week 13 Notes
This week, we kicked off the beginning of the second trimester. The great thing about trimesters is there is an opportunity start fresh three times throughout the year. As you sit down with your child to review his or her report card from first trimester and reflect on how everything went, it's the perfect time to set goals, reorganize or replenish supplies, go through the work space at home, and reset homework routines. Whether the report card was strong or in need of improvement, everyone has the chance to start fresh.
Question of the Week
This week is an incredibly important time to ask questions and reflect with your child. It's the first report card of the school year and I highly encourage you to push your child to take ownership over what transpired in the first trimester. This week, ask your child "What class did you work hardest in this trimester?" or "What grade do you feel you worked hardest to earn?" You might also want to ask "Knowing what you do now about your classes, what would you have told yourself at the beginning of the school year?" Please remember, middle school is a crucial time for learning and for developing student skills. If things didn't go the way your child planned, that's ok! There are still two more opportunities to turn things around this year.
Thank You,
Jeff Carron

8th Grade Math Update - Ms. Koenig
As with any new hire, our staff is working together to ensure success. Ms. Radtke, our school instructional coach, will meet with Ms. Koenig weekly to assist with lesson planning in the two Algebra 1 courses. She will also be in the room with Ms. Koenig throughout the week to work on new teaching strategies, give feedback, and co-teach. Mrs. Downs, our district math specialist will take the lead with the 8th grade math pilot. Similarly, she will work with Ms. Koenig each week to assist with planning and join in the classroom throughout the week to provide feedback.
I'm excited to add a new staff member and can't wait for you to get to know Ms. Koenig. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me via email or phone.
Trimester 1 Report Cards
On the report cards, you'll notice that there is an overall grade and a citizenship grade for each class. As a reminder, the citizenship grade is an indicator of how your child performed regarding their behavior, teamwork, and participation in class. The content area grade is a reflection of how well your child performed regarding the essential skills need to learn. In short, citizenship reflects behavior and the content grade reflects learning.
Yearbook Cover Design Contest
This year students have the opportunity to design the cover of the HHASD student yearbook. All students are welcome to participate. The rules/guidelines are attached. Students and staff will be voting on the winning design. Runner up(s) will be printed in the back of the yearbook.
Please share this with your school. If you can include this in your newsletter. morning announcements that would be great. Thanks so much!
