Fall Movie Theater Party
We will be turning our fifth grade classrooms into movie theaters and one of our classrooms into a concession stand for our fall party on October 31st from 12:55-2:45!
Students will “buy” tickets with behavior points to the movie they would like to watch. Students will go to the classroom where the movie they are watching is being shown. They will visit the concession stand and choose items to eat and drink during the movie.
We need donations for our concessions and parent volunteers to run the concession stand. Please use this Sign Up Genius link: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0d4baaab2ca4fc1-fall3 to sign up for items to bring/volunteer. You do not have to create an account to sign up. Just put in first and last name, click on rsvp now, and click on slots to sign up to bring items or attend. Please do not send items for the concession stand until October 30th or 31st as we do not have room for long term storage. If you would like to sign up but don’t have access to a computer please contact your child’s teacher.
Parents are also welcome to join us for the movie in one of the classrooms as well. Permission slips will be sent home this week for the PG movies. We also have G movie(s) available.

Thank you to everyone who has been donating books to our classroom library. Our baskets are full of great reads for everyone to enjoy.
Please remember that students are expected to read at least 20 pages a night of the books they are bringing home.
Week at a Glance
Motivation Monday - We are continuing our word study, focused on specific areas of opportunity. Spelling Buddies will be selecting their words today and should be studying those words and their rules at home. In Reader's Workshop, we will continue our study of the power of book clubs. Every reader has been working with their own book groups and they are doing a great job!
Techy Tuesday - Today, we will look at our personal narratives and assess our work using a narrative checklist. We will use our tech time today to publish our narratives and finish up any Study Island assignments that have not been completed. These assignments are a big part of your child's reading grade and are important practice opportunities for growth as readers.
Workshop Wednesday - Today in Reader's Workshop, we will work to stay with an idea while reading, and find support for that idea or reasons to change that idea. In writer's workshop, we will work on using a writer's notebook as a tool for trying new things with writing.
Thinking Thursday- Today in Writer's Workshop, we will discuss the writing process and take a seed idea through this process in a short amount of time. In Reader's Workshop, we will learn how debates can push us to think more about what we read and can also lead to great conversations with our book clubs.
Fun Friday -Today is an early release day for Fairmount students. We will spend our morning assessing our learning of spelling rules and vocabulary words. Book groups will spend some time discussing their reading this week and deciding their weekend reading assignments.
MATH & SCIENCE with Mrs. Evans
Math
COPIES OF STUDY GUIDES AND WEEKLY MATHS CAN BE FOUND ON OUR CLASS WEBSITE IF NEEDED. www.mrsevansclass.weebly.com
Study Guide Topic 5 - We will keep this is our binder and work on it throughout the topic. It is due on the test date.
Topic 5 Assignments- In the math section of the binder you will find students' topic books where you can monitor what they are working on and how they are doing with the standards. Students are to keep all work (DCCRs Practice pages, and quick checks) in there to use to review for tests. They will turn them in at the end of the topic. If test is taken online, their test score will be written on the cover of their topic book.
Math Intervention: Math Intervention will be on Wednesdays. Students who score lower than 70% on digital quick checks will be in an intervention with Mrs. Evans for the standard they struggled with. Students who scored lower than 70% on a topic test will be assigned review on ZEARN.org. Parents are emailed by Mrs. Evans if this is assigned as some of the review may need to be done at home.
