Winter MAP Testing - change of dates and Information
Please note that the original MAP testing dates were January 19 and 20. Due to the Student Personal Learning Days on January 18 and 19, the MAP testing dates were changed to January 12 and 13.
On January 12th and 13th, your child will take a MAP Growth test. MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. MAP Growth tests are unique and adapt to your child’s responses to measure your child’s skill level. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. These results will provide a more complete picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn. Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students' needs then plan instruction accordingly. MAP Growth reports also provide typical growth data for students who are in the same grade, subject, and have the same starting performance level. This school year, your student will take the test three times a year in the fall, winter, and spring.
We appreciate your help in making this a positive and successful experience for your student. A few suggestions to help your student:
1. Make sure your student gets a good night of sleep prior to the test date.
2. Make sure your student has a healthy breakfast at home and/or takes advantage of the school's free breakfast.
3. Make sure your student arrives at school on time. We test in the morning on these dates.
4. Gently encourage your student to do their best. While we all want our student to do their best, we also want the students to not feel excess stress or anxiety.
If you have additional questions, please consult the MAP parent toolkit: https://www.nwea.org/parent-toolkit/
Changes to a special class
The end of the 1st semester grading period is an allowable time for the kids to make a change to a special class. If you wish to request a change to your child's specials, please email your child's counselor. Keep in mind, there are a limited number of choices. The classes offered are computer science (5th), Steam (6th), Art & multimedia (must be taken together), gym, social and emotional learning (SEL), choir & general music. Students will not be able to add band or orchestra at the semester. If you are interested in starting an instrument, please contact the band (graultyt@sycamoreschools.org) or orchestra (ottot@sycamoreschools.org) teacher for more information. All change requests need to be in writing to your child's counselor by Monday, January 17th. Lost and Found
We want to update you on lost and found. Our wonderful students have been working hard on this project. They have reunited items with students if there were names on them. More items will be added soon. Per our handbook, all items from the lost and found were donated over Winter Break.
They are also building the catalog of lost items. Each item will have a number. So far, students have cataloged about 100 items! You can view the items HERE. If you recognize something, HERE is a form you can use to claim it.
Flight Crew
E.H. Greene Flight Crew Applications now available
Dear Greene School Families,
The Flight Crew believes that we can create a culture where all learners are empowered to reach their full potential.
We create this culture by building a school environment where all students wake up inspired to learn and return home knowing they did their best at the end of the day.
Together, we will lead a culture where students take ownership and responsibility for their learning, respect students and staff, work to ensure a safe environment, and problem-solve for themselves and their peers.
If you or your child are inspired by the same vision and would like to help bring it to life, this is your opportunity!
Applications to join the Flight Crew can be completed following this link.
*Application deadline: Friday, January 14th, 2022*
Students’ applications will be reviewed by teachers and administrators. Applicants who are accepted will be invited to our Flight Crew open house where we will begin our mission together.
The curriculum of the Flight Crew is largely based on Simon Sinek’s “Start With WHY” and “The Infinite Game.” Let’s work together to shape the culture of the Greene School!
Go AVES!
