Hey RAMS,

Class of 2022! College Application, Transcript, Recommendation Processes

The School Counselors visited US Government classes on August 31 and September 1 to share with seniors the information and steps needed to follow through on college applications, transcripts, and recommendations. If you missed it in class or want to view it, check the Advisory 12 Schoology group for a copy of the slideshow. On Tuesday, September 21 at 7:30 PM in the Riverside Auditorium, the School Counselors will provide a presentation for parents.

National Merit Scholarship Competition Recognitions

Last October, about 1.5 million 11th graders from across the United States took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). The NMSC uses PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index scores to determine 50,000 high-scoring participants who qualify for program recognition.

Riverside is proud to announce that we have 17 students who are among the 34,000 which the NMSC recognized as Commended Students. Some of these students may be candidates for Special Scholarships provided by corporate and business sponsors. Congratulations to the following students:

  • Abhiraam Bathula
  • Afia Paracha
  • Rohini Das

  • Isaac Goldman
  • Divya Sharma

We also have five (5) Semifinalists to recognize. The National Merit Scholarship Program recently announced approximately 16,000 Semifinalists from across the country, which include:

  • Laasya Doppalapudi

  • Edward Joo

  • Shyamanth Kudum

  • Shreya Paliwal

Semifinalists are the highest-scoring entrants in each state and have an opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $30 million to be offered next spring. Congratulations to all the students recognized by NMSC for their outstanding academic performance.

Dear Parents and Guardians:

SENIORS: October 13-PSAT Day is an Asynchronous (you don't come to the schoolhouse)

Grades 9-11: Loudoun County Public Schools will be offering the PSAT 8/9 (Preliminary SAT) to students in grade 9 and the PSAT/NMSQT (National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) to students in grades 10 and 11 this year. The test will be administered on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. This will be the only administration for the 2021-2022 school year. Registration is not required and there will be no cost for students. This letter provides some information about the PSAT assessments.

Both the PSAT 8/9 and the PSAT/NMSQT assessments measure mathematics, reading, and writing. The tests focus on reasoning skills, knowledge, and comprehension. They are one indicator of college readiness and provide students the opportunity to prepare for college entrance exams. Additionally, students in grade 11 who take the PSAT/NMSQT are eligible to compete for National Merit Scholarships. Additional information on both the PSAT 8/9 and the PSAT/NMSQT can be found at the College Board PSAT website at https://www.collegeboard.org/ and also the LCPS Office of Assessment website.

Additionally, it may be helpful to download the specific student guides found here:

PSAT 8/9 Student Guide 2021-2022

For additional questions regarding the PSAT administration, please contact your Schoo Testing Coordinator, Michi Bryant at michi.bryant@lcps.org.

A little help needed: We (as a school) do a great job of getting to class once we are in the schoolhouse! But, we have quite a few stragglers in the morning who are late for school. The last two weeks have been a trial run for the kids to work out their schedules (I'm really talking walking, driving, and drop-offs) to make sure they are in class by 9:15 am. Any help you can provide to help us start the day on time would be much appreciated!
