Emergent Bilingual Update
August 2023
Moves for BOY LPAC Principal and EB Educator Success!
- Read the EOY LPAC Guidance Document from TEA, taking note of what you will need to do at BOY to have everything ready for your campus' EL students.
- Review teacher certifications, credentials, and renewal certifications. Ensure that your EL students are placed in BE/ESL certified classrooms.
- Be on the lookout for student scores, taking appropriate steps for students who were reclassified conditionally, preparing PEIMS coding changes, as appropriate.
- Check to ensure that teachers listed in last year's waiver/exception have become certified, documenting certification status on the document.
- List any non-ESL/Bilingual certified teachers whom you know will have EBs in their classroom on the 2023-24 Waiver and Exception document.
- Identify staff in need of LPAC, LASLinks, preLAS, ELPS, ELLA, ESL certification prep, Gomez, and any other training. Enter those staff members and their needs here.
- Begin looking for LPAC parents to train for your campus meetings. It is recommended to train more than one or two parents per campus.
- Begin planning your English Learner parent and family nights to be held throughout the year, with translators available at the campus level for parents as needed, according to your campus Parent & Family Engagement Policy. If you'd like ideas or need support, please contact Mindy Basurto.
Summer Assessment LPAC Update
Join us to get ready for BOY LPAC Process and Program Requirements!
Everyone who participates in LPAC meetings must be trained annually. This includes your sped and 504 reps or any other committee member who will attend LPAC meetings. Please ensure your staff attends one of the training sessions below.
This session will provide updated information for the Beginning of Year LPAC process and program requirements. Participants will be provided with an overview of the LPAC guidelines and procedures. Participants will also review updated information provided by TEA. Please bring your LPAC Framework Manual to the training.
If you need an LPAC Framework Manual, please go to: https://www.txel.org/lpac
You have two options to better suit your calendar demands:
