Visual Arts at CCES
Welcome to 2016! We are beginning several new units in all grade levels.
Students in K, 1st, 2nd will be studying the art of printmaking! Printmaking is a technique where the artist can design or build a “stamp” and create a copy of their image using paint or ink on paper. Check out this fun, interactive website to learn more about printmaking: http://www.moma.org/interactives/projects/2001/whatisaprint/print.html
Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade will beginning their sculpture unit soon. We will be sculpting with clay using various hand-building techniques (slab, coil, and pinch). Check out this fun, interactive website to create digital pottery:
Physical Education at CCES
Happy New Year from your CCES Phys Ed team. As we reflect on 2015 and look forward to 2016 we talked to the students about New Year’s Resolutions. We heard everything from “that’s when they shoot fireworks” to “setting goals to something you want to accomplish”. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has some great ideas for kids of all ages.
For all kids:
1. Talk to a parent or trusted adult when you need help or are scared.
2. Never give private information or send pictures over the internet.
Preschoolers:
1. Wash hands after going to the bathroom and before eating.
2. Pick up toys after playtime.
3. Brush teeth twice a day.
Kids 5-12 years old:
1. Only drink soda and sugary drinks at special times.
2. Drink reduced fat milk and water every day.
3. Wear sunscreen when you are outside.
4. Be nice to other kids especially those who are new to your school.
Kids 13 and older:
1. Take care of yourself through physical activity and proper nutrition.
2. Resist peer pressure to try tobacco, alcohol or drugs.
3. Volunteer to help in the community.
4. Don’t use a cellphone or text while driving.
Music at CCES
Happy New Year! We are off to a busy start to 2016 with many musical opportunities available for CCES students.

5th grade – creating dances to go with songs that we will sing and accompany on ukuleles.
4th grade – learning dances to go along with singing and playing recorders.
3rd grade – will be preparing for their concert in March.
2nd grade – we will be learning the story of Mr. Pine’s Purple House and improvising on Orff instruments.
1st grade – will create movements to go along with classroom stories.
Kindergarten – will be singing and moving to the story of the Bremen Town Musicians.
Chorus:
We would like to encourage any interested 4th and 5th grade students who did not get to join chorus in September to join us for the second half of the school year. New chorus students may join us for rehearsal on Tuesday, February 2nd after school until 4:00. Rehearsals are every Tuesday after school. We hope to see some new faces in the crowd!
CCES Chorus has our Milton Cluster Concert on Tuesday, January 26th at 6:30 PM at Northwestern Middle School. This is a wonderful even that features all of the elementary and middle schools that feed into Milton High School. We will all perform for each other, then join together to sing a final song. Please join us for this wonderful event if you can!
