Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
October 1st-5th
What's Going On This Week:
Ms. Harris' Science: In Science this week we are finishing up Lesson 1 "The Atmosphere" and moving on to Lesson 2 and 3, "The Water Cycle" and "Clouds". Students will be participating in labs in class on all three topics. On Tuesday October 9th students will have a quiz over Lessons 1-3. All the information will come from the notes in their Science IANs.
Ms. Uhlenhake and Mrs. Thurston's Math/ELA: In ELA, we are going to continue establishing a reading life and thinking deeply about characters in the books we are reading. We will also continue reading “The Tiger Rising” as a whole class. We are focusing a lot on character traits this week, ending with a quiz Friday. In writing, we will continue to work on our Realistic Fiction stories. In math we will be starting our Multiplication/Division unit. We will focus this week on factors, multiples, prime and composite numbers. Please make sure that your child is studying his/her math facts every night. A great resource to use at home is Reflex or IXL. The students have their logins inside of their agendas. There will be a factors, multiples quiz next week.
Ms. Harris' GT Math/ELA: This week we will start our new novel for October, "The Westing Game." Students will be using clues and character traits from the book to solve the book's big mystery. At the end of October, students will take a comprehension test over this book. We will also be working on identifying character traits in class and finding evidence in both a character's words and actions to support that trait. In writing, students will receive their spelling words this week. Their tests will be next week on their designated days. We will also begin drafting our spooky story narratives in class. In math we will begin single digit multiplication and division. Students will be identifying factors and multiples and explaining why a number might be prime or composite.

Mrs. Walters, Mrs. Elliott, Mrs. Marlovits, Mr. and Mrs. McCutcheon, and Mrs. Reneau. If you are listed as a chaperone and can't make it, or would like to chaperone and are not on the list, please let me know ASAP. Here is the information for chaperones regarding next Thursday:
Chaperones will need to arrive at the Nature Center by 8:00am for the orientation. The Nature Center (where to park and meet) is located off of By-pass 21, approximately 1.5 miles north of the Peach Stand. Directions can be found at: www.ascgreenway.org
