A Message From Your Loving Principal
November/December 2020
Dear Sequoyah Families,
Thanksgiving is a day designed for looking backward. Thanksgiving is also a day designed for looking ahead. On this special day, we look back over the year that has passed and pause to review what we have done and been a part of, and to give thanks for all that we have, despite the absolute craziness of this pandemic. As I look back, I am thankful for so many things that are a part of my memories and life. I am thankful for all of you. I am especially thankful this school year for the students. When they see me in the halls, café’, outside, or classroom…despite the masks, I see their beautiful and innocent eyes and the way that some of them will go out of their way to come and say hello. I am thankful for the fine job they do as students in this school; they make me proud in so many ways. I am thankful for the staff. I love coming into the classrooms (virtual or live) and being there as the teachers lead in lessons designed to build the students’ minds. I am thankful that each one of our teachers is deeply interested in the students and work toward teaching all those concepts they need to know and want to know. I am thankful for the way the entire staff works together to make Sequoyah a special place for learning. I am thankful to the parents. The parents give our school the very best that they have, and I am more than thankful for it. I am thankful for the entire Sequoyah community. I love this school because it is a fantastic place to be, a place where all of us can come to explore, wonder, learn, grow and, yes, be happy…despite the MANY challenges we face! I am thankful that Sequoyah is a marvelous place to be...a place that cares for the students it welcomes each day, a place where education is honored and the student nurtured. Truly, this is an awesome school, and I am thankful for it. Thanksgiving is also a time for looking ahead. As we gather to give thanks for the blessings of the past, our hearts and minds cannot help but look to the year ahead of us. I am thankful that, over the next year, I will have the pleasure of living our vision together. Whether we look back or ahead, let us be thankful for the many blessings we have received, and truly be appreciative of the opportunities that lie before us. On behalf of the entire Sequoyah staff, we wish you and your family a safe, blessed, and happy holiday season!
Love and Hugs,
Mr. Zotos

Attendance/Absences Reminder
If your child is going to be absent on a day he/she is scheduled to be in school according to the A or B track, you will need to call our 24 hour attendance line (586.723.6899) to report this absence.
Attendance Notes to Know:
- Students will be marked unexcused if a call/note is not received prior to the day of the absence.
- Students marked unexcused, will receive an automated call from the district to notify you.
On the days students are working asynchronously or learning from home, they still receive an attendance mark. This mark "2WC" (2-Way Communication) indicates your child is working on their assignments at home. If students choose not to engage in the assignments/activities assigned by their teachers, 2WC may be changed to an unexcused absence.
Please be sure students are completing their at home assignments to help support the learning that takes place in the classroom. Thank you for your help and cooperation as we learn this new process together.
