EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP SCHOOL DISTRICT
Central Office Communications: Week of November 15, 2020
OUR CURRENT REALITY
Egg Harbor Township School Community,
It is American Education Week! This week we have the opportunity to celebrate public education and honor all individuals who are making a difference in ensuring that every student receives a quality education. We are grateful for the team of people who work in our schools each day. #EHTPride! American Education Week is also a time to promote collaboration between parents and educators. Typically, schools host events under a theme proposed by the National Education Association (NEA). This year is a little different because of COVID-19, however we encourage parents and students to take the time to communicate with members of their school community.
As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I remind everyone of the importance of daily gratitude practice. Parents and students alike can take part in easy at-home activities that include doing a good deed that shows appreciation, writing thank you notes to family, friends, first responders, and teachers, perhaps volunteering to help or donating items, or simply going for a walk and appreciating the colors of fall. Gratitude promotes positive and positive is something everyone should experience.
As we see COVID -19 cases in our county rise, I will continue to remind parents, students, teachers, staff, and administration the importance of adhering to our health and safety guidelines to assist with maintaining a safe and healthy school environment. Everyone in every building is required to correctly wear a mask that covers the nose and mouth at all times, practice social distancing to the greatest extent possible, and be sure to sanitize hands via hand-washing and/or hand sanitizer. Students and staff who are feeling less than well, should not come into school and are required to fill out a health screening form. Let’s work together to curtail the spread of the virus and keep our schools safe and open for in-person educational opportunities.
If you should have any questions for me or the central office staff, please feel free to email or call. I promise that you will receive answers quicker by way of a phone call or email, rather than using social media or seeking information elsewhere. We are your relevant source of information and we are always open to building relationships and learning about the needs of our school community; I encourage you to want the same.
Together we will continue to be #EHTStrong!! #EHTReady
Yours in Education,
Kimberly A. Gruccio

CLIMATE & CULTURE
The culture of our schools includes our school improvement efforts to increase student achievement for ALL students. Where with Every Hand Together, Every child, Everyday is provided a relevant learning experience. Through professional development opportunities we are building an effective learning culture where students are provided a safe learning environment. Our teachers collaborate in professional learning communities to review student progress in order to provide ALL students with the opportunity to learn at high levels. We have a district -wide initiative that includes individualized interventions through the RTI process to assist ALL students with learning. We know that in order to successfully educate each student, we must be cognizant of each student’s individual learning needs. This can only be accomplished if we work together to eliminate any predictability of achievement disparities by race, ethnicity, gender, language, disability, and/or economics. All faculty and staff participated in equity training during our professional learning days. The high school multicultural club will be preparing to join the district equity committee to participate in collaborative discussions and event planning. Together, we can achieve more!

ATHLETICS/FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS/ACTIVITIES
OUT WITH THE OLD! IN WITH THE NEW!
The track is in and just needs its striping for lanes. The turf is in and needs lines and numbering to be completed. Once this is finished, the fill will be distributed across the field and we will have a safe playing area for our students.
MESSAGE TO OUR STUDENT ATHLETES AND FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS
Our athletic teams are engaged in playoff competitions. The format will be very different than in the past, as league rules are keeping teams close by. I am proud of our students, coaches, and advisors who have worked hard to maintain safety and provided our students the opportunity to be outside to practice and compete. I admire their commitment! #GOEAGLES!
The NJSIAA will share the guidelines for winter sports on or before November 20th. So far, preliminary plans include the Winter Sports season slated for practices to begin on December 3, 2020 and for competition beginning on December 21, 2020. The health and safety protocols for indoor practices and competitions from the Medical Task Force will guide us for implementing the processes and procedures for practices and games. We are hopeful that they are conducive to a safe environment for our student-athletes.
The rain halted the construction on the track and turf. While things are starting to look great, crews still have work to do and will return to finish the striping of the track and work on the lining and numbering of the turf.
Enjoy your last week of the 2020 fall season!
GO EAGLES!
