Erpenbeck Enquirer
March 23
From Your Principal, Mrs. Pass
Last week, Erpenbeck was featured in a news story about the International Festival and the growing diversity in the area. The story is linked above. I was humbled as I listened to one of our families speak about how our area and our school approaches its diverse community. Our school believes in fostering cultural competency and kindness in our students.
One small way we can foster this in our children is to ensure that they are seeing and reading about characters and perspectives that are different from their own. We have begun to really look at our text choices as educators and evaluate if students have access to books by diverse authors and about diverse characters- books that more accurately represent our current community. Not only are these stories important culturally, many of them are beautiful reflections on the human experience.
Mr. S and I will be doing a few read-a-louds (with permission from the publishing company) of books that we purchased from our school book fair that posses some of these qualities. The first book is below! This is a book by Olympic Medalist Ibtihaj Muhammad. I hope you enjoy it!

How do I join my child's Google Classroom?
Your child should have received an invite to join a Google Classroom. For special areas and counselors, they may also have received a code to join. Here is a video that explains how to join a Google Classroom!
Google Hangouts
Digital Citizenship is much like our MUSTANG PRIDE we practice in the classrooms and hallways of our school. The Google Classroom and Google Hangout is an extension of our classroom. WE must be Respectful, Responsible, and Safe online. One thing we are seeing is that students are using the chat box during inappropriately during the lesson, which is distracting other students, and the teacher, from the learning that is taking place. Students should only use the chat box during a lesson as directed by the teacher. This means a student would typically use the chat box to ask a question or make a comment about the lesson/learning. If a student is choosing not to be respectful, responsible and safe online during a Google Hangout and is becoming a barrier to the learning of others, he/she may be removed from the chat and then contacted by the teacher or an administrator as a follow up to discuss. This is an instructional day, and we are expecting all of our students to show integrity.

Parents/guardians,
We understand that the Non-Traditional Instructional (NTI) days are new and different. New and different can be exciting, but it can also lead to frustration and/or worry. Your students may experience feelings of sadness over missing their friends and teachers. They may experience worry about getting their school work completed or having a new routine and schedule. If your child experiences any of these feelings it is important to let them express themselves without judgment. Let them know that their feelings are normal and ok. Sometimes just listening is the best thing we can do. Attached is a one sheet guide on handling worry. You can gently remind the kids to use some of the strategies that we have learned at school that are outlined in this handout.Struggling with talking with your Mustang about their emotions regarding the world events? This resource will help you navigate those emotions and build a closer relationship with your child.
7 Hills Church: GO PACK to help students and families during COVID-19
Our heart is to serve the community in any way that we can so we have created “GO PACKS” to help relieve some of the pressure that families are feeling at this time. Below you will find some of the contents of these GO PACKs:
· 2 packets of oatmeal
· Microwavable mac & cheese
· Applesauce Cup
· 2 packs of Raman
· Packet of fruit snacks
· Packet of Goldfish
· Pop-top chicken noodle soup
· 2 Granola bar
· Toilet Paper
· Misc. Hygiene/Cleaning supplies
We have made sure that our facility where these bags were packed was cleaned and disinfected. All volunteers involved in packing these wore gloves and were not COVID-19 symptomatic in any way at the time of packing.
Parents can pick up a GO PACK this Thursday and Friday (March 19th and 20th)
Where: 7 Hills Church (6800 Hazel Ct. Florence, KY 41042). Follow the signs to the RED tent on campus. Families will pick up their GO PACK at the red tent
When: Thursday and Friday (March 19th and 20th) from 12-6pm
*For us to best serve our community we are asking that families only request 1 box per family member in their household.
* Next week, drive thru pick up times for GO PACKS might be different. We will send details once we know when those days/times will be.
It will be a drive-thru experience so parents will not need to get out of their car. Our volunteers will walk the packs out to their car with gloves on and will maintain appropriate distance. We appreciate everything you are doing to serve families during this time. Stay safe and well!
Best,
The 7 Hills Church Outreach Team

Here are some links with some good information. The youtube video is a good one and answers a lot of questions that our kids might be asking. Try staying off social media, it is overwhelming and not always the most up to date and accurate information.
