Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Summer Term - Issue 1

A word from Mr Broom

It's almost two weeks since I wrote to you last. In that period, we've had two short four day weeks. During this time, our teachers have delivered their wonderful project launchpads; this is where we spark enthusiasm for topics and it's fair to say the children are buzzing about their learning.

On Tuesday, Geraldine Hughes, the NYCC Health & Safety Officer visited school to make statutory checks on the building works which have taken place. She left confident that school was taking all reasonable measures to ensure the safety of our children and was very complimentary of Mr Wooffindin's hard work in making the site safe.

Next week is SATs week for our wonderful Year Six children. We wish them all the very best and I'm sure they will do themselves and us very proud.

Have a lovely week ahead.

Weekly Attendance (Last Week)

Although it was a short four day week, last week saw our attendance rise to a fantastic 97.7%. It seems as though it's been forever since we had attendance around the 98% mark but it's where we need to keep it for the remainder of this term.

Congratulations to Y3 on their 100%. A wonderful achievement.

This week, attendance fell again to 95.1% as absence seemed to really strike our Y1 class.

Congratulations to Y2 on their 98.6%. They were our attendance champions this week.

Our Star Achievers this week (and last)!

Our Academy is 1 Year Old!

This week, our academy (STARMAT) turned one year old. It's incredible to think how quickly this year has gone and the achievements we have made. Martyn Sibley, our CEO, has written a report for all parents which he would very much like you to read. This report is attached below.

Y2 Volunteer Readers Needed

We can't emphasise enough how important it is to read with children. For this reason, we're looking for some parent volunteers who may have an hour to spare to come and read with our Year 2 children. If you think you have the time, please call the school office for further information.

A Singing Star in the Making!

If you're ever around at choir on a Friday afternoon, you'll know they all sound fantastic but there's one future superstar that really shines when it comes to singing, and Holly now has the qualifications to prove it.

Passing her Grade 2 in Musical Theatre with the highest possible grade, 'Distinction', we are delighted that one of our pupils is a graduate of the University of West London.

Congratulations Holly.

Tri Golf Superstars

Last week, Mr Wooffindin (with the help of Mrs Liddle) organised a small tournament of Tri-Golf on our school grounds when the official tournament was called off due to bad weather. It certainly didn't stop our budding Tiger Woods'. Together with Kirk Fenton children, they had a great time in this super active version of golf. Well done everyone.
