Fidget, is it a toy or is it useful?
The truth of the matter is, we run a very interactive workshop model in our classrooms. Students are usually only required to focus on us teaching for about 10 minutes at a time.
Brain research shows that students are able to focus for 1 min. per year old. So our 10 minute mini lessons should be perfect! The students are also always free to walk and move around the room as need be to help their brain regroup and refocus.
If your student DOES need a fidget, please send us an email stating WHY and we will monitor them to see if they need it in order to be successful. Before sending it to school, practice your child's ability to follow oral directions or do some sort of school work, and see if they are able to do that WITHOUT looking at and getting distracted by the fidget. Our rule of thumb is that if it's a good fit, a fidget should never be seen! If we CAN see it, it is then a toy and no longer a fidget. Thank you so much for your support in this!
"If These Tombstones Could Talk" Field Trip
Here's What's Happening in 4th Grade!
Writing: We wrapped out our biography pieces this week! The students did an amazing job on these.
Math: This week we work on multiplying fractions. Next week we will begin comparing fractions along with simplifying them.
ELA: We continue to study different types of poems. So far, some of the favorites have been Diamante and Acrostic.
Science: This week we started and completed the 2nd Annual HSSD Open (look for pictures on our FB page). The students created a golf course hole and then had to program their Sphero using the Tickle app to go through the hole. This was very challenging and a ton of fun!
