March 29, 2023 - NEWSLETTER
Hello Centerview Families,
It was great having everyone back in the building last week to begin our learning journey through the third trimester of the school year. It was like we never left for a week of spring break as students quickly re-established themselves throughout the building and in their classrooms. We’ve got a lot left to accomplish, and I’m excited about the opportunities ahead.
Spring is always a busy time of year. I’m sure many of you are gearing up for spring sports and other activities that will keep you movin’ each evening. Be sure to check out upcoming events. You won’t want to miss opportunities like seeing the high school musical, “Matilda.”
Also, keep an eye on your child’s classroom communication that comes out each Friday. MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing has begun in K-2 and soon MCA (Minnesota Comprehensive Assessment) testing will begin for grades 3 & 4. A good night’s rest and a healthy breakfast is important for students to do their best.
Looking ahead to April, please remember there is no school on Friday, April 7.
Stay optimistic…spring weather will be here soon!
Take care,
Mike Callahan
Principal
Mark your calendar: Events for parents
Spring Lake Park Schools partners with Lee Carlson Center for Mental Health and Well-Being to provide services to our students and families. Through this partnership we are offering a couple of events for parents to help equip parents to support their children. We hope you can join us.
Supporting Children with Anxiety and Stress — Wednesday, April 19, 6-7 p.m., the Den at Westwood Intermediate and Middle School
Talking to Children about Safety Topics — Wednesday, May 17, 6-7 p.m., the Den at Westwood Intermediate and Middle School. This session will cover physical safety as well as internet and social media topics.
If you have questions, contact Social Worker Abbey Pierce.
Reading Party!
First grade students were able to read from their book bags for 20 minutes straight, showing great stamina. They then had a reading party to celebrate. Students had to read words on Jenga blocks, and then stack them and play the game or read words on red cups and stack them.
Employment opportunities through school connections
Seniors Griffin Gaspersich and Ryan Kollbaum got jobs at local transportation company Blaine Brothers after touring on a school visit. Through the many partnerships that connect high school students with businesses in the community, students are exploring future career paths and landing jobs. Read the full story to hear from Griffin and Ryan about their working experiences.
The Scholastic Book Fair is returning to Centerview April 10-14. We need help with set-up, student preview days, shopping days, and a new evening family shopping event. Please review the volunteer needs and sign-up to help through SignUpGenius.
Live on 65: Gary Mauer, Broadway vocalist, performs on April 13
This Broadway vocal performance will be sure to "wow!" Everyone in the community is invited to join us at Spring Lake Park High School for this very special evening of Broadway songs performed by acclaimed singer Gary Mauer on Thursday, April 13 at 7 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased day-of at the box office as availability allows or snag your tickets in advance online.
