Viking Strong!

Back to School at Virtual Valle Verde Elementary

We did it! We had a great first week of school! All grade levels held “Back to School Night” and set up routines and procedures for their classes. Our Valle Verde Teachers shared information about themselves and the overall goals for their classes. If you missed your child's "Virtual Back to School Night" most of the presentations were recorded and will be added to the class website. Hopefully your child is getting use to the new schedule with structure and activities that will keep them connected to the lesson delivery and new learning. As your child’s caregiver you are a key component to our success as a TEAM. Your expectations in the home environment will foster your child’s overall growth. Next week, we’ll begin a module of parent meetings to support the Social Emotional Learning. The next parent meeting will be held on August 28th at 10:30am and I will send the invite next week. Here is an overview of our next meeting.

The first module will provide instructions on how to write up expectations for the home and rules for activities in different locations in the living environment. We will also discuss stress relief and mindfulness.

I realize that many of our families may have already set up the home environment so we will use the time to share ideas, as well. Keep in mind that academic and social-emotional behaviors develop together. Consistency is key with the Distance Learning program and this is week one, so we have room to grow.

As we start the second week of school, your child’s teacher may assign iReady
Reading and Math Diagnostic Assessments, small group instruction or even one to one teacher-directed time. The one to one time will allow our teachers to work with your child and understand their levels of learning. Staff may want to hear your child read and respond to comprehension questions. As a parent/caregiver, allow your child to work with the teacher without too much prompting. We would like to meet your child right where they are and plan for next steps. If you have any questions or concerns, please email perkinsm@mdusd.org . Thank you.
