Week of February 1st

High School and Middle School students have been coming down every-other Wednesday to meet with our LIW students. We have done some activities to get to know each other. Yesterday, the students did a scavenger hunt with the Middle School students. They finished with some friendly games of tic-tac-toe to pass the remaining few minutes.

Internet Safety

Mrs. Abi has used some of her computer lab time to teach about the importance of staying safe on the internet. I wanted to share this document from the curriculum she has used to remind students to stay safe online. Setting privacy settings on any and all social media accounts is a great place to start. We also talked as a class about the importance of reporting any inappropriate or unusual messages, pictures, etc. that they might see or receive.

Valentine's Party

We will be having a class party on Thursday, February 11th at the end of the day. Students are allowed to bring Valentine's/treats for their friends but they must bring enough for everyone in the class. A class list is linked below.

Also, students are able to design a Valentine's box (at home) to bring to school on Thursday. Here are a few ideas from Pinterest, but any box/bag/etc. will work! Please let me know if I can help in any way.

Snowmen Art

Here are the finished products from last week's watercolor art project. These colorful snowmen sure brighten up the hallway!

Super Bowl 50

Last week, we surveyed all of the students at LIW to see who they predict would win the Super Bowl this year. The 5th graders graphed the results and did a little research to find more information about each team. We are anxious to see who will actually win. The students have an opportunity to earn extra credit with a little Super Bowl activity.

It is hard to believe that we are already in FEBRUARY! This month will fly by like the others I am sure. As we look forward at the calendar, the Smarter Balanced testing is right around the corner. Students will have the opportunity to take practice tests at school, as well as at home. Students should be familiar with the format of these tests, however the content can still be tricky. Any extra practice is helpful! Here is a link to the practice tests:

Comics Wanted!

If any of you still get the funny papers, I am looking for some comic strips to use for a class art project this spring. If you are willing to share yours, please send with your child to school. Thanks!

Donors Choose Project

LIW Donors Choose project to help get document clips for the monitors in our computer lab. Document clips attach to the monitors and hold papers for the students while they type. This project will actually benefit all of our Elementary students. If you are interested in helping fund this project, or know someone who is, you can check out the link below to learn more about Donors Choose. Thanks!
