Why support SBS through North Texas Giving Day? Read the Pagels' testimonial below about how SBS was such a wonderful gift for their son, Stevie. And there are many more stories of how your funds - large and small - truly help transform our students from eager young children into the bright, motivated, and faith-filled adults our world needs.
WHY WE GIVE
"St. Bernard of Clairvaux created a safe learning environment where my son, Stevie Pagel, was valued, and his love for others and for learning was truly fostered. We give because we want to ensure that the same positive experiences that we had will continue to pave the way for future generations. We give because we want to make sure that SBS' most valuable resources - our teachers - are adequately recognized for their dedication and hard work.
Stevie attended St. Bernard’s for 10 years. He started as a pre-K baby and ended up an amazing, intelligent, and kindhearted young man! As a Catholic family, our goal was to have our son in a religious school where he could learn his Faith and become a man of morals. I thank St. Bernard’s for helping us educate our son to become just that. St. Bernard’s is our parish and our Catholic home. We will be forever grateful for the kindness of the teachers, staff, and clergy who guided our son on this journey. Ms. Sally Walsh is a shining star of St. Bernard’s as she walked with Stevie and helped him grow in knowledge and independence!! Thanks to everyone at St. Bernard of Clairvaux who participated in Stevie’s education! He is a great kid!!!! Y’all did a great job!! And this is why we give!"

WHAT'S BRUIN...
Middle School Religion
For example, 7th Grade is doing the series on Thy Kingdom Come, which takes an in-depth journey into the authentic life of Jesus as seen in the Gospel of Matthew. In Matthew 6:20,24, Jesus says, "For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and mammon." Students discussed the concept of mammon - a term used to describe gluttony, excessive materialism, greed, and unjust worldly gain - and were asked, "What is your mammon?" Answers were both honest and thought-provoking: cell phones, social media, x-box, sweets, sleeping - and led to further discussion on the role of these items in their lives as young Christians.
Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa was born Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu in Southeastern Europe in 1910. She lived in India for most of her life, working as a nun among the destitute people of the Calcutta slums. She founded the Missionaries of Charity religious order, which has grown to over 4500 nuns active in over 100 countries today. Winner of the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize, she traveled the globe, meeting popes, presidents, and royalty. But she never forgot her mission of serving the poorest of the poor, always willing to take on the most menial tasks. In fact, she often said she was simply "God's pencil - a tiny bit of pencil with which he writes what he likes."
Mother Teresa stressed the importance of prayer, love, humility, kindness, forgiveness, compassion - all traits we hope to inspire in our SBS students on their journey through life.
TEACHER FEATURE
Sr. Maria de los Angeles Garcias, SSVM, 6th-8th Grade History and Religion
Sister Angeles was captured diving into teaching her first few weeks of school in this featured picture in The Texas Catholic Newspaper.
FUN FACTS:
What is the most interesting place you have travelled?
The Holy Land and Rome - when I was there, I wished I could have stayed there to live. It left me speechless.
What is your favorite book or movie and why?
One of my favorite books is Abandonment to Divine Providence by Fr. Caussade, S.J., because it keeps me focused on doing the will of God no matter what.
What famous person would you like to meet some day?
Saint John Bosco, because he is the patron of the youth and the children.
BRUIN FLASHBACKS!
This past week was short but busy, as the SBS community gears up for North Texas Giving Day and the Carnival, both important fundraisers for our school and community. Many of our students had the opportunity to interact with Bishop Lynch students this week as the BL students began volunteer service hours helping out at SBS. Meanwhile, extracurricular activity ramped up this week, with the After School Drama Program beginning Thursday, and sports teams all hard at work practicing for the start of the fall season.
