MountainView Elementary
November 2020
Message from the Principal, Chris Woodward
Hello everyone!
It is hard to believe that it is now November and winter is definitely here. It is also hard to believe that our school building has been closed for nearly eight months! There does appear to be some light at the end of the tunnel, however, as Preschool through second grade students are scheduled to return to school buildings on November 16. We have put a lot of time and energy into making plans to promote health, safety, and social distancing. Please see the links elsewhere in this newsletter that will take you to our Health and Safety Plan and some other related items, including a recording of an informational meeting we had recently.
Speaking of informational meetings, I’d like to thank all of the many parents who attended our recent meetings to discuss the return to school plans. We really appreciate how involved you are in the education of your children. We are also going to have another meeting next week to discuss options for parents who are not ready to send their children back to school. More information about that meeting can also be found in this newsletter.
As we navigate a transition back into school buildings, there are sure to be questions. Please know that the administrative team, front office team, and Nurse Tammi are all here to support you. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions.

Message from Nurse Tammi
HELLO FAMILIES!
What a whirlwind month we have had, like the wind outside this week!! I hope you are all warm and preparing for winter!
As we plan to return younger students to in-person classrooms I want to let you know what the nurses have prepared to keep us all as safe and healthy as possible. Many of these items are also addressed in the Elementary School Health and Safety Plan from Mr. Woodward and Ms. Watson.
I will have two areas for the school nurse. The first area is in the main office, as before. Here will be students with scraped knees and paper cuts as usual. The students will be bandaged up and sent back to class as soon as possible.
I will be doing vision, hearing and growth screenings from the main nursing office also.
IF a student has any flu-like symptoms: chills, congestion, cough, fatigue, elevated temperature, headache, loss of taste or smell, muscle/body aches, nausea, chest tightness, sore throat or rash the student will be isolated with me in a specified room for flu symptoms only. This room has 2 cots, 6 feet apart and protected by clear vinyl curtains to protect the student and others. The student will wear a mask the entire time he/she is in the isolation room. There is a separate toilet, sink, and phone. Once the student has been picked up the room will be cleaned. At no time will a student, either in the main nurses office or in the isolation room be left alone, without adult supervision.
Parents will be called to pick up a student with suspected flu symptoms immediately. Please be sure your contact numbers are up to date and you are reachable. It may be prudent to pick up other siblings at the same time if you are called to pick up a sick child.
If your student has been sent home with flu symptoms, be prepared for them to need a negative Covid test or be home for up to 14 days.
I know this is complicated and I would be glad to discuss or answer questions!
