Good Afternoon Memorial Families,
We are entering my most favorite time of the year, and one that can also bring mixed emotions. While I choose to celebrate this time of year and try to focus on the joy of the season, I am cognizant that it is not always easy and that this time of year brings different experiences for all of us. The best part about Thanksgiving, though, is that it is not material. It is a season of focusing on the things that we are indeed most grateful for. In that spirit, I’d like to take a moment in this newsletter to publicly express my gratitude to all of you, our Memorial families.
- Thank you for the warm smiles from you and your children in the morning and in the afternoon when you drop off and pick up your kids. On the coldest, wettest, windiest days, those smiles do lift me up out there! I enjoy the connections that I’m able to make and the conversations we have in the pick up line in the afternoons while we wait for it to move, and I especially love the dogs!
- Thank you for the thoughtful conversations and partnerships when we chat on the phone or email back and forth. It is wonderful to work closely with families who are willing to partner with us to support our children.
- I am grateful for our kind, welcoming, and generous PTO. Our monthly meetings are fun, focused on how we can enhance our students’ experiences, and I appreciate the terrific attendance by so many each month. I look forward to seeing our outdoor classroom spaces become a reality and seeing how they support learning across the school.
- Thank you for volunteering, reading to a class, participating in an event such as the Spooktacular, providing supplies for the classroom, sending your child’s classroom teacher a note of appreciation, among the many many other responsibilities you have in life. All of this kindness matters and I am grateful for an active, supportive community.
- And finally, thank you for sharing your children with us. On my most challenging days, stepping into a classroom, or the lunchroom, or passing by the smiling (under the mask) faces in the hallway brings me joy and happiness. Children remind us to laugh, have fun, and not take life too seriously. There is no other place I’d rather be every day for work.
I wish each of you a very Happy Thanksgiving. I hope that no matter how you approach the holiday season, that you, too, take some time to reflect on your gratitude. Enjoy the week!
Warmly,
Wendy

What is a SEPAC? It stands for ‘Special Education Advisory Council’ It’s designed as a support system and forum for loved ones of children who currently are or in the future may need special education services.
Why SEPAC? SEPAC works to encourage understanding, respect, acceptance, and inclusion of all students. SEPAC provides opportunities for parents and guardians to share experiences, exchange information, and learn more about challenges facing today's students. SEPAC’s also work directly with the district's Student Support Services department to provide feedback on a variety of topics.
