Dublin Grizzell Middle School

Principal's Message
Just a little about Mr. Wilkinson
The 2021-2022 school year will be my 18th year in Dublin City Schools. My first 9 years in education were spent as a middle school math teacher at Sells Middle School where I also coached golf and baseball. Prior to becoming Principal at Grizzell, I spent the previous 7 years at Jerome High School as an assistant principal.
I reside in Worthington with my wife Whitney, my twin 8th grade daughters Riley and Reagan, and my 5th grade son Garrett. In my free time, I enjoy coaching and watching my kids in their various sports and activities, exercising early in the morning, and spending time with family and friends.

Fall 2021 Grizzell Athletics Information
Since the Grizzell MS Athletics coaching staff has limited ability to meet with 7th & 8th grade students to discuss the upcoming season, this email has been created to "sign up" your child for GMS Fall sports. Here are the steps to the REGISTRATION PROCESS:
1. FINAL FORMS -- starting now, be sure to create a Final Forms account at https://dublin-oh.finalforms.com. Both the parent & student-athlete must create a Final Forms account AND sign all necessary forms for the Fall. IF YOU HAVE AN EXISTING ACCOUNT @ SMS (i.e. existing 7th grade SMS student-athlete), the district will switch you from SMS to GMS between 5/21 - 6/1. Otherwise, new accounts need to be created and all forms need to be signed by 8/2/2021.
When completing forms on Final Forms, please make sure you specify the sports your child plans on trying out for/playing in 2021-2022. If your child plans on trying out for a cut sport, you can sign up for that sport AND a non-cut sport (as a backup plan). This will insure you are on the coaches' email group. Coaches will contact all those who sign up during the Summer to inform you of any details regarding practice/tryouts.
2. OHSAA Physical -- Schedule a physical exam w/ your family physician. Have the doctor complete the required OHSAA physical form (found on the Athletics page under the "Registration" link. These are valid for ONE calendar year and can be submitted to Head Athletic Trainer Maddie Legerski by 8/2/2021. All physical forms of those who attended SMS will be transferred to GMS over the Summer.
3. DCS Covid Waiver -- this form can be found under "Forms & Links" and needs to be printed, signed, and turned in to the Head Coach on the first day your team begins activity.
4. WAIT -- After you complete all of the above, the coaches will send informational emails over the Summer with the practice/tryout schedules and reminders.

Summer Reading
All students should be hearing about the district’s summer reading expectations from their language arts teachers before the end of the school year. Please read the file that corresponds to the grade your child will be entering in Fall 2021 for the book options and the assignment.
Middle school students will also have a chance to join an optional book club surrounding their summer reading book choice. This is not required, but will be a great place for students to discuss the book to keep it fresh in their minds for when school starts in the fall. There will be an optional Schoology course for rising 7th and 8th graders, and optional in-person summer meetups will be shared through this course.
If you are interested in having your child participate, please have your child join the appropriate course using the Schoology access codes:
Incoming 7th graders: ZQMZ-4M5B-JSDKW
Incoming 8th graders: X6B8-9RZG-4SPMB
Incoming 6th graders can find out information about optional in-person summer meetups on this page as they are planned.

JJ Strong 5K on August 14th
JJ Thomas was diagnosed with Leukemia on November 4, 2016. He was in 7th grade at Grizzell Middle School in Dublin, OH, playing football and soccer, doing well in school, and enjoying his friends. One phone call changed all of that. He spent the next year undergoing intense chemotherapy, having bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures, and blood transfusions, unable to attend school, or have much interaction with the outside world as he often did not feel well and his immune system was very compromised. Throughout this time, JJ, along with his siblings Larkin and Zach, his parents, Luke and Michelle kept their faith and a positive attitude and did everything to FIGHT to beat cancer.
On March 2, 2020, JJ RANG THE BELL at Nationwide Children’s Hospital signifying the completion of his treatment. He and his family looked forward to living with less restriction and worry and getting out into the world more. The pandemic made that more difficult but due to JJ’s positive attitude and resilience he and his family found ways to enjoy life throughout the last year. We want to bring back the JJ STRONG 5K this year to celebrate life and raise money for Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Families for a Cure to give back after receiving so much. Please join us!
There will be options for both a 5K run/walk or a 1.4-mile walk providing something for everyone!
Please note: all those 18 & under registering for an in-person event will receive a $5 discount at check-out!
