Summer Reading 2023
Rudder Middle School is a community of readers! The goal of Summer Reading is to engage ALL students in challenging, high interest books of their choice. As a Rudder student, we ask that you read at least one novel of your choice this summer. By spending time reading, you will expand your vocabulary, give yourself examples of great writing, deepen your critical thinking skills, and build your focus and imagination.
There is no other assignment than to read during the summer and be ready to participate in a reading/ writing connection activity within the first grading period once the new school year begins.
While all books are valuable, we want you to choose books that are a comfortable challenge for you. They may be novels, books in verse, informational books, graphic novels, or audiobooks. We have put together a list of suggested authors and popular novels you may want to choose from. Remember, you can choose whichever book you wish to read - it does not have to be on the list below. Don’t forget to ask family members, friends, and teachers for suggestions!
Mrs. Alyssa Torrez Cantu , Rudder Middle School’s ELA Instructional Coach, is happy to answer your questions about Summer Reading. Email her at alyssa.torrez@nisd.net.
Happy Reading!
