Check out this Data on Absenteeism in Marion County Schools!
Chronic absenteeism is marked by missing 10% or more of your total school days (no matter the reason - excused or unexcused). For us, that comes to about 17 days of school. The numbers below compare our chronic absenteeism data to those of our neighboring districts in Marion County. The percentages are the number of students who met or surpassed the 10%/Chronically Absent threshold.
Here are the numbers, broken down by grade bands:
Pleasantville ... 2% (K-3), 2.7% (K-8), 3.5% (K-12)
Knoxville ... 6.9% (K-3), 7.1% (K-8), 8.2% (K-12)
Pella ... 8.1% (K-3), 4.9% (K-8), 4.6% (K-12)
Melcher-Dallas ... 6.5% (K-3), 6.9% (K-8), 8.6% (K-12)
Twin Cedars ... 7.4% (K-3), 9.2% (K-8), 11.8% (K-12)
State of Iowa (avg.) ... 5.6% (K-3), 6.2% (K-8), 8.3% (K-12)
As you can see, Pleasantville students at all grade level bands have strong attendance rates. Chronic absenteeism has a major impact on student achievement, drop-out levels, and at-risk behaviors. Getting kids to attend regularly is vitally important to their future success, so we are very glad to see our kids doing so well at showing up and prepared to learn. This is also an invaluable character trait for future, successful employment as we suspect that missing 1 out of every 10 days wouldn't be acceptable in most places of business!
