GT Update
Here's a look at what we've been doing in 2nd grade GT
Personality Profiles
All of the GT classes began the year with a personality project. We learned about our own personalities and the personalities of our classmates. It was a lot of fun, and very enlightening to discover more about our GT crew! The students created personality profiles that are now displayed outside of our classroom. Stop by and take a look!
Using the Scientific Method in Fairy Tale Forest
2nd grade moved on to a study based on the story of the 3 Little Pigs. Using the scientific method, we conducted an experiment to see if air (the wolfs breath or in our case a hair dryer) could knock over a straw, stick, and brick house. Students worked in partners to build a house of each material. We hypothesized and quickly discovered that brick houses are the most sturdy. With each trial the houses took better shape and in the end we had some stick and straw houses hold up... mostly! We looked at houses made of different materials in real life, and talked about what real wind damage can do.
That storm a few weeks ago helped bring things to life as we discussed trees fences and things that the students had seen knocked down in their own neighborhoods!
We are continuing with 3 Little Pigs, but have moved on to readers theater. Soon we will perform for some classes around the school. The students are really doing a great job, you have some little actors and actresses on your hands!
