Character Dress-Up Ideas for the Book Week Parade...
Our parade this year will be on the lower playground at 8:30am on Wednesday, March 23.
The PTA is providing complementary coffee for parents and caregivers on the playground, so grab a cup and enjoy the parade!
There's no need to spend a lot of money on fancy Book Week costumes. Simple, home-made ones are often the best!
A BIG BOOK SWAP - Give a book, take a book!
Students can bring in one or two gently-used books from home they are no longer reading and swap them (for free) ! This is a great way to refresh your home collection, so please send in a couple of books with your child anytime between now and book week to participate!
STORIES AT LUNCHTIME
Students can come and hear a favourite story retold and embellished by a mystery teacher reading in the library during lunchtime.
THE GREAT READING QUIZ-A-PALOOZA!
On Wednesday, after the parade, all classes will take turns coming to the library for a short session where students will form teams to participate in a Reading Quiz. Winning teams and the runner-up team will receive a choice of prizes. All students will go home with a small participation prize.
There won't be a catch-me-reading photo competition this year, but it will be back next year!
January & February 'Books For Birthdays' students...
If your child is having a birthday, they can choose a brand new book for $100 and be the first to read it. They then return it and donate it to the library as a legacy in memory of their birthday!
Scholastic Book Catalogues
If your child would like to order any of the books, please return the order form by Thursday at the latest together with a cheque (no cash) to the Library.
Learning in the Library
Year 1 Unit of Inquiry
As part of this unit, Year 1 also learned about being safe online as part of our Digital Citizenship program.
We learned and used many different apps and websites and the Year 1 students used some of these for their Year 1 Performance Assembly a few weeks ago.
The whole unit was a celebration of learning!
Hong Kong Young Writers Awards - results
With over 160 schools participating and over 1000 entries, competition was tough and unfortunately no entries from Glenealy were shortlisted this year. But in the sprit of Growth-Mindset, this is a wonderful opportunity for those students to reflect and look at this as a learning experience, and to come back and enter again next year!
We will be pleased to present all Glenealy students who entered with a participation certificate.
Borrowing from the Library
Students can borrow every day, they do not need to wait until their assigned library day.
The library is also open to students at lunchtime from 1:05-1:30, when they can change library books, play chess, read or just hang out with friends.
