The Buzz
Errol Hassell Family News- June 4, 2020
I have not formally addressed the recent horrific incidents in our country because I have no words. My 27 year career has entirely been in education, and I knew, as a child, that I wanted to be in a helping profession. I am paralyzed with fear and grief over George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and countless others. I have been reading about Dr. Waynel Sexton, who was George Floyd's second grade teacher in Texas. As Dr. Sexton states, "As teachers, we teach our children to find helpers when we are in trouble, to find the policeman. I wonder now, as I have been for some years, what do we teach our young black men? Who are the helpers for the young black men?" We must do better and be better, and I am recommitting myself to focus harder on equity and inclusion.
Wishing you all peace for your loved ones and strength to fight injustices,
Cynthia Moffett
