Eagle Update: January 22, 2021
Barton Hills Elementary
Hello BHE Families:
I again want to thank all our families for your commitment to the health and safety of our students, staff and community. The response of families who were able to keep their students in a remote learning environment again his last week was so helpful and by having fewer students report to campus we were able to increase social distancing significantly and offer flexible work schedules for staff to further reduce the number of people in our building. Together we can continue to create the safest possible learning environment for our students and staff.
I hope you all have seen the most recent communication from our Superintendent, Dr. Elizalde with guidance about next week. If not, please read it here. So that we can best plan for our students, if your child is planning to return to on campus learning or begin on campus learning next week, please let your his/her/their teacher know.
New this week: Friday, January 29th, 2021 is an Asynchronous Friday for AISD. The purpose of this day is to provide teachers planning and preparation time as well as an additional opportunity for professional development. All student learning will be remote and off-campus on this day – students will not report to campus. Teachers will provide learning activities for students via BLEND and SeeSaw but will not be doing any live instruction via Zoom. This is a student attendance day and we will be taking attendance through evidence of engagement in the learning activities. If your child has been an on-campus learner, they will bring their device and charger home with them on Thursday, January 28th. Please let us know as soon as possible if you need assistance with your child's device or hotspot. Watch for more information from your child’s teacher about the learning activities how to contact them for support if needed during the day.
Please mark your calendars for the other Asynchronous Fridays: February 26, March 5, April 9 as they are not on the original AISD Calendar.
Thank you as always for your flexibility and support in this most challenging school year!

PTA Parent Support Series
Please join the Barton Hills PTA on Wednesday, Feb 3, at 7pm for a virtual conversation on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion with Lawrence Alexander. This is a follow-up workshop from his initial one in December but anyone can join our workshop, even if you did not attend the first. You MUST register to get the Zoom link.
During our workshop, titled "From Understanding to Allyship: A Community Responsibility," we will explore how we can practically apply what we learned through our conversations with Lawrence on how to have the hard conversations, as well as discussion on the books and podcasts we read/listened to about anti-racism.
To those interested in attending our workshop for the first time, you are welcome to watch the first presentation here. You can also listen to a PilotEd podcast interview with Mr. Alexander on how educators can do anti-racist work. To learn more about our guest presenter, who is the lead search consultant for Carney Sandoe and Associated DEI practice, visit https://www.carneysandoe.com/team-member/lawrence-alexander.
We look forward to having you join the conversation and most importantly, for doing the work! This event requires an RSVP. Zoom information will be sent through Eventbrite once registered. Please register HERE.
