Los participantes entenderán:
- cómo un estudiante puede comenzar a exhibir este tipo de conducta en la universidad. Verán errores comunes que podemos cometer en materia legal y de política institucional al atender estos estudiantes.
- identificar los síntomas comunes del trastorno bipolar, trastornos psicóticos y esquizofrenia.
- qué es el ‘four part direct threat test”, que puede llevar a una baja forzosa de la universidad por razones médicas, cuando hay una situación que amenaza la seguridad de otros.
- cómo minimizar el riesgo legal al atender estos estudiantes.
- las mejores maneras de manejo de casos de estudiantes con estas conductas, obteniendo el apoyo de los padres y de ayudas sociales
Dr. Brian Van Brunt
Dr. Brian Van Brunt , past president of the American College Counseling Association, is Senior Vice President for Professional Development Programs at the National Center for Higher Education Risk Management (NHCERM, www.ncherm.org). Over the past thirteen years Brian has taught counseling theory, ethics, program evaluation, statistics and sociology topics at both public and private schools for both graduate and undergraduate students at five different colleges and universities.
He is the author of several books including: Ending Campus Violence: New Approaches in Prevention and A Faculty Guide to Addressing Disruptive and Dangerous Behavior in the Classroom.
Jason Ebbeling, J.D.
Jason Ebbeling, J.D. is Vice President of Student Affairs at Mitchell College in New London, Connecticut. He previously served as Director of Residential Education and Services at Southern Oregon University, Associate Dean of Student Affairs at Menlo College in Atherton, CA, Director of Campus Life at New England College, Residence Community Coordinator at California State University, Chico, and as Director of Residence Life at Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin.
He completed doctoral coursework in Educational Administration at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and received a Juris Doctorate from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
