PCMS WEEKLY UPDATE
October 18, 2019
A huge "THANK YOU!" to our parents who volunteered this week to help with the 6th-grade field trip to Earnest Shepherd Youth Center in Liberty. (Thank you in advance to those who volunteered for our final trip next Tuesday, as well.) We had a fantastic time learning how to work together, listen to each other, think and plan ahead, and how to lead as we completed the challenges through the course. Plus, we got to enjoy the great outdoors! We know and understand how impactful a meaningful field trip can be, and we're fortunate to be able to offer all of our students these learning opportunities throughout the school year.
Just a heads up that Report Cards were emailed to parents today, so check your inbox for those. Also, a reminder that Parent-Teacher Conferences are next week and there will be no school Fri, Oct 25. We look forward to seeing everyone at conferences! Have a wonderful weekend!

Our PTO needs your help!
It's time for Conferences at PCMS! Let's provide some snacks for our teachers during this busy week. PTO will be providing a meal for the teachers on Tues, Oct 22 - catering by El Maguey. We will need a few items, such as paper products and a few condiments, to supplement that dinner. In addition, we would like to supply the teachers and staff with snacks throughout the week.
If you are able and would like to donate, please click the following link https://www.signupgenius.com/go/508094CADA723A6FA7-pcms and choose from the items listed. Items can be sent to the PCMS office starting on Fri, Oct 18. Items can be sent in through the week of Oct 21, but please have “dinner items” to the office by Tues morning, Oct 22. Thank you in advance for your help!
Notes from the Counselors
It's hard to believe the 1st quarter is already over and the school year is almost halfway done! If you haven't had a chance to meet us yet, please feel free to stop by and see us during Parent/Teacher Conferences next week.
Our guidance lesson topics for October are as follows:
6th-Grade: Character Council
High school students will be teaching 6th graders about various character traits and how to model those traits.
7th-Grade: Rescheduled for November
Due to scheduling conflicts and implementing the SOS program, we were unable to meet with 7th graders this month in the classroom. We will be back in November!
8th-Grade: Career Interest Survey/Intro to High School
8th graders will complete a career interest survey through Missouri Connections and will be able to identify a career pathway. While we know this career pathway is likely to change, we will use this as a starting point when discussing class selection for high school (help in selecting elective courses). We will begin our introduction to high school and briefly discuss the ICAP (Individual Career and Academic Plan). The ICAP is a "road map" that guides students through the coursework selection and activities to help them achieve their personal goals. Each 8th-grade student will complete an ICAP, which will be reviewed and updated each year until they graduate high school.
NCC Open House ~ Thurs, Nov 14
The Northland Career Center (NCC) is hosting an open house for current 8th, 9th, and 10th-grade students on Thurs, Nov 14 from 4:30-7:30pm. This Open House is an excellent opportunity for our 8th-graders to learn more about the programs NCC can offer them once they are in high school. Students and parents will be able to interact with current NCC students & staff, participate in labs, and tour the building. A chili dinner will be provided to those who attend!
