How do you write a literary analysis essay?
Whilst an individual is writing a literary analysis essay it is important to understand that this type of essay is an analysis and an argument for a piece of literature.
An individual should keep these literally concepts in mind:
Plot: How is the plot build up? Does it add suspense? Does the author use techniques such as flashbacks or foreshadowing? Examine the events that lead up to the climax of the writing.
Setting: Is their any relationship between the works’ setting and the mood? How does the setting impact the characters? How does the setting change the overall purpose of the work?
Point of view: What is the point of view, first, second or third? How does it change/effect the intended purpose of the work? How might the author’s point of view affect the reader’s perspective of the work?
Metaphor, Symbol,Irony: How do these concepts add to the intended purpose of the work?
Characterization: What diction does the author use when describing the characters? Are there any characters that are universal symbols? Are their any dynamic, flat, or round characters in the work?Important things to remember
Not only should an individual use literary concepts, they should also have a use of direct quotes, historical evidence, and summaries in order to support the argument of the essay.
Remember this is simply not a summary of the literature work, it is an argument to express the writer's interpretation, purpose, and meaning of the work.
