• Cell phones should be off and away during the school day. Most teachers offer to collect and lock phones up when students enter the building. If cell phones are out repeatedly throughout the day, the teacher will ask the student to hand it over until the end of the day.

• Please remind all students who ride buses that they should remain seated at all times and keep their hands, feet, and other objects to themselves. Not doing so will likely result in denial of bus transportation.

Students have been working hard this winter in math class! Here is what each grade level is up to:

Kindergarten has been working on counting to 100 everyday! We would love your support at home with counting, paying special attention to saying our teen numbers correctly and counting over the decades (29, 30, 31). Kindergarteners are starting a new unit about adding and subtracting within 10. Try some problems at home using Cheerios as counters.

First Graders have also been counting every day, but to 120! They count forwards and backwards, starting at any number. Students are also learning about adding and subtracting efficiently. Knowing our combinations of 10 helps us to solve mental math. Ask your student “how many more do you need to make 10 if I have 6.”

Second Graders are working on counting to 1000! Students are just finishing a data unit and will begin a new unit with adding and subtracting within 1000. Ask your student to count to 1000 by 100s!

Third Graders having been working hard all year to learn their multiplication facts. By the end of the year, students should know all their single digit times single digit multiplication facts. Students practice skip counting by any number 1 -9 to help their fluency.

Fourth Graders are having a blast learning how to convert measurement from inches to feet to yards. Students will be learning how to use a protractor soon to measure angles of different shapes. Students are also working on their multiplication fluency.

Fifth Graders are starting their last whole number unit. Students will be working hard to master efficient multiplication and division strategies and studying to see how the US Standard Algorithm works for multiplication.

We appreciate all your support at home to help reinforce the skills students are learning! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to school!

Be mindful that even if your child brings breakfast and/or lunch with them, we CANNOT DENY students access to the meals that we have in school, so if you do not want them to eat a school breakfast/lunch or have concerns about the possibility of them eating a double lunch (the one that bring from home and what we offer in school) and ending up with a tummy ache, please have that conversation with your scholar. :-)
