Tustumena Elementary Newsletter
December 2, 2019
Congratulations Tustumena!
Tustumena Elementary School has been selected as a National ESEA Distinguished School for Alaska for 2019-2020 in Category 1: Exceptional student performance for two or more consecutive years. Congratulations to all of our staff, students, volunteers and families for the hard work you have put into increasing student achievement and success.
We hope you all had a nice and relaxing Thanksgiving Break. Welcome back to the last three weeks of the second quarter. We have a lot going on so don't forget to check the upcoming events listed below. If you would like to come to an event during school hours, like the Spelling and Geo Bees, please remember to sign in at the front office first.
On Thursday, we will be having an ALICE drill around 2:45pm for about 30 minutes. Please be aware if you have any appointments that afternoon and will be picking up your student, we will not be in the building during this time.
Odyssey Family Practice has generously paid off all outstanding meal charges for Tustumena School as of Wednesday, November 27th. If you had a negative balance on this date, you will begin December with a fresh start. Thank you to Odyssey Family Practice for your generosity.
All library books are due by Friday, December 13. Be sure to find and return your overdue books or pay for your books if you’ve lost them. Prizes will be given to students who have their books turned in.
Have you submitted your volunteer application so you can join in on class parties or attend field trips? If not, please do so at www.kpbsd.k12.ak.us and click on volunteers. If you have difficulty accessing the internet, you are welcome to come to the Kasilof Public Library (in our school) during their hours Monday-Thursday 2-6pm (changing to M-F 2-5pm on December 4th) and use the computers in there. We would love to have you join in on classroom activities, but this is a district requirement before you can participate. You are welcome to call the school at 260-1345 anytime to make sure you're "on the list".
A Message From Nurse Claudette:
Because colds and flu share many symptoms, it can be difficult (or even impossible) to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone. Special tests that usually must be done within the first few days of illness can tell if a person has the flu.
If your child is sick, please keep them home.
Thank you to the Boys and Girls Club and Kasilof Public Library for the beautiful window paintings!
